Seller's Description

Beautiful RARE 1948 Chrysler Crown Imperial Limousine. There were very few of these cars ever made and only a handful still exist .paint, interior, motor, everything, all original. Complete car, nothing missing,I even have the exterior windshield visor.Original paint is in excellent condition, it’s dusty and dirty from sitting so long but shines up like new when polished. All original interior, mohair wool seats front and back which is rare, most were vinyl front and mohair back.Reason for selling, bought as a project but turned into more than I can handle at this time.Head has a crack on top in the thin water jacket, could be brazed or a new head is 250 bucks.A lot of the valves are stuck from sitting so long, cylinders need at minimum a hone or possibly be bored. Motor does crank freely. Haven’t dug into anything else really, brakes need work but car comes with new brake parts. Tires are new as well. Steal of a deal for someone with the time and skill to fix the motor. $7,500 OBO or trade.

I've never worked on a flathead before. Hmmm how hard is it? This car is close to me and very tempting.

My parents owned a 1948 Dodge 4 door sedan that was much like this Chrysler except shorter in length. I was only one year old when they bought it but I remember the car vividly despite being only 10 years old when they traded up to a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis 2 door forward look model. I recall my mother crying when dad bought the Chrysler and traded in the Dodge, but she soon warmed up to that first Forward Look Chrysler.

They were both solid vehicles that were very dependable. But it was interesting to go from a flat head 6 cylinder to a 331 cu. in. Hemi V8.

No wonder I am still crazy.............................

Real easy to work on. They used the same engine for years, you can even find them in farm equipment and fork lifts. The military truck collectors have made everything available, often NOS.

There's even some dual carb manifolds around.

Now that I think on it, that's probably got a straight 8 flathead engine. That would be the same as the very popular 6, but obviously 2 more cylinders.

So, maybe a little harder to find some parts, but things that the 6 share would plentiful. They are built very well... Full floating piston pins and hardened valve seats for example. They built the flathead six for industrial use up into the early seventies!

Well it was bought by a flipper. Next day he had it back on FB for $12500. He has since lowered it to $8500.

I see the car still listed but at $7500.

Weird description:

“Nice condition all original but motor will need full rebuild see pics, sorry not for sale to *** cancer patients.”

What??

Also this seller and the first seller have the same last name. Coincidence or related?

Yeah I'm guessing the sale didn't go through for some reason. In one ad though it shows the engine with the head off.
