I think it's a bit south of Steve but maybe he does know the car. Looks like it's begging for a nice restoration. Complete and not butchered. Also about as rust free as you're going to find one of these.

Steve? @saforwardlook ... it's in your neighborhood what are your thoughts?

Yes, Kenny, it is about 2 to 3 hours away depending on the traffic. It appears to be a real 1958 model with some 1957 parts on it, especially the front grille and maybe the bumper too.
I think Chris has it accurate, it is about as rust free as one is likely to find anymore but it will still need attention around the body mount areas where there is clear rust and some other areas as well. It will indeed need a full restoration and finding some missing parts, but it is certainly doable for someone with the motivation and the funds to see it through.
I can take a look at it for someone if they are seriously interested in the car.

Thanks Steve:thumbsup: What's the status on yours? You've got a custom royal lancer don't you? Have you made any progress on it lately?

Mine is a Regal Lancer, Kenny, which was a spring special version of the Custom Royal Lancer and was Dodge's top of the line model in 1958. I wish I could say I have made some progress lately, but I haven't (probably because I end up buying other vehicles to save such as the recent 1971 sunroof teal Newport when I should be focusing!). But at least I now have virtually everything assembled in terms of parts needed that are unique to the Regal Lancer model to complete a restoration of mine and that hasn't been easy.

Here is a photo of mine that I have shown a couple times before. The side trim is very different than a Custom Royal Lancer and the only color schemes available on the Regal Lancers were combinations of copper/white and copper/black and they had very unique interiors that were significantly more upscale than the Custom Royal Lancers. Mine is a copper/white color combination originally.

Here are a couple of photos of the Regal Lancer when restored:

Thanks Steve, that's going to look great when its done. Those color combinations are very cool. I'm assuming your going to keep it white like the one on the first photo? Whoever came up with the interior design and color combos were extremely talented for sure. Your seats are more white than these copper ones? Kinda reversed? Wherever the copper is on these is white and whatever is white is copper?
What engine? Looks like a dual quad. Hemi? Like the 392?

Very cool, I was unaware of the "Regal" Lancer, you've got the upscale bumper on yours too. I'm going to have to do more research on your call, this site is a never ending learning experience.

Yes, Kenny, I am going to keep mine original white/copper since I also prefer that combination although the black/copper combination is also very nice. All the interiors are the same as the in the photos shown and they do not reverse the color combinations consistent with the exterior choices. Even the headliners in these cars are very unique, but I can't find any clear photos of that piece.

My car came originally with the standard 350 cu. in. - four barrel B engine but could be upgraded with the 361 engine single four barrel that was called the D500 package and this car was also available with the super D500 package that was a 361 - dual four barrel engine as in the photo of the white one with the hood open in the post I submitted. My 350 engine is stuck, so I will have to see if I can rebuild it but I do have a spare 361 D500 engine that runs perfectly with very low miles on it and I am seriously thinking of putting that engine in my car instead. That is not my usual practice, but in this case I am tempted.

I know you will try to keep the car as original as much as you can, because that's how you roll, hehe, but I'm glad you're thinking outside the box given the circumstances, and opportunities you have. Whatever you decide to do I'm sure it will be a great restoration! You are a perfectionist and highly admired and reguarded in my book!

Keep us posted on your progress !

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
And as always, God Bless!

Thank you for the kind comments Kenny :). I will certainly keep you guys posted on my projects. I wish you all the best as well and God bless you too!!!

Thanks for this education Steve. I have always been under the impression the first year B 350 engine was the only big block available in Dodge and Plymouth, (Plymouth super commando 350 2-4 bbl carb). Sources I checked show a 361 as the D500/501 in the Dodge. Makes me wonder if the 361 was a spring edition engine in 58.
will.

I have admired your Regal Lancer from the first time I saw a picture of it. Regal is the right name for it. I put it on a level with my 61 Fury convertible.
Collecting parts well in advance of the restoration is a wise choice. If I were a younger man I would be tempting you with offers.

Well, I ain't no spring chicken either Will, being 72 now and approaching 73 fast. But I still am determined to get this one done before I stop doing this stuff along with a bunch of other cars. Having a body/paint guy who is here 4 days of the week now helps a lot and he is really good at not only the body/paint aspect, but also the mechanical side too. He has been doing this stuff many years now and he is 20 years younger than me, so that helps enormously. I also have one other helper when the occasion arises. But most of the time, I still do the mechanical/interior stuff mostly myself.

The 361 engine was available in all Dodges in 1958 as far as I know since I also have a 4 door, very low mileage Custom Royal Lancer that has a 361-4 bbl. engine in it originally from the factory, and it is not a Spring Special.

There are no certainties in life, so I just march forward until the man upstairs determines otherwise. I really do enjoy this stuff although there are days when I think this is too much work! But being a nut case gets me going again pretty fast. :realcrazy:

No **** as I learned last week and you have no idea how right you are...

Man, i would sacrifice a lot to own a car like that. And the state it is in, makes it affordable but still not a basket case. Vehicle's don't get much prettier then Exner design.
