Asking $5,500, OBO, in the Atlanta, GA Area
Fair Shape, Mostly Complete, Unrestored Original ‘Survivor’
Good Restoration Candidate – Could be used as Parts, but the Body is too solid for that & would be blasphemy, IMHO.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
• The 1960 New Yorker was Virgil Exner’s best design of all. The New Yorker had tail fins & took instrumentation and luxury to a stunning artform. These cars were sleek & space-aged’, without the overdone ornamentation of so many other cars of this era.
• Very Original, Hard to Find this type of Forward Look Car as complete as it is
• Pretty Highly Optioned – Power Windows, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Radio
• NO MAJOR RUST Issues. Surface rust is on the roof & body, buy no holes. Floors are GOOD, Frame has only normal surfacing, small pitting areas never got a chance to be more than surface (see photos – you’ll see that I am probably overstating this but am doing so for full disclosure). Apparently, this was an Idaho car, but looks like it has spent a few decades, here, in Georgia, out of the rust belt.
• This is a Very Restorable car. That said, somebody from the past decided they had to disassemble the pushbutton transmission buttons. They are all there, but will need to be re-assembled
• As par for the course, due to Georgia’s ridiculous policy of not granting Titles to cars this old, As such, There is no Title. Sold with a Valid Georgia Bill of Sale.
EXTERIOR / BODY [My Opinion: 6.5 –of- 10]
• The Body is Straight & un-Modified (Surface rust, some missing rear trim, some small dings, nicks & scratches).
• Rust is not ‘cancerous’
• Original Paint is fair on main body, will need to be refinished on the roof.
• All Chrome, trim & brightwork, except for the headlight bezels & rear bottom trim pieces, are there & are in good shape – can be brought back mainly with polishing to be shiny
• Glass is almost perfect – Windshield is cracked…but a Spare Windshield, YES, a Spare! Comes with the Sale.
INTERIOR [My Opinion: 4 –of- 10]
It is aged, but very restorable. ‘Good Bones from Dash Frame, Instrumentation, etc.
• Some panels could use a refurb. It is missing the Rear Seat. The only real issues are:
• Upholstery needs to be replaced (Thankfully, You can STILL get this upholstery from SMS Upholstery in Oregon: 1960 Chrysler)
• Dash, ‘Electronics/Electrics’ & Gauges is pretty complete & undamaged, The Pad is Gone.
• Incredible Astro-Dome Dash Design is Intact
MECHANICAL [3 of 10]:
• Unknown Mechanical Shape, but is complete. My belief is that the Engine/Trans should be pulled & ‘gone through’, possibly rebuilt
• Correct Engine, ‘Golden Lion’ 413 V8
It has been sitting a long time.
• Transmission: 3-Speed, Push-button Transmission is there, condition unknown, but complete
• Air Conditioning: None, but…On a previous 1960 New Yorker, I got it upgraded to R134a & it worked great (in the GA summers) for the 17 yrs I owned it, so I’d do this upgrade. Upgraded to R134a, so maintenance is not an issue (& if it ever is, it will be cheap to maintain)
• Suspension & Steering:
• Fuel Tank & Lines There.
SUSPENSION & BRAKES [5 of 10]:
• Front & Rear Suspension: Appears complete – It rolls.
• Driveshaft & Rear End are there
• Steering: Complete, Power Steering components are complete.
• 4-Wheel Drum Brakes. Brakes work enough to stop a roll (original, single M.Cylinder & Drum Brakes – I would upgrade these to 2-reservoir M. Cyl + Disc Brakes)
• Tires & Wheels: They are old, but hold air. Steel Wheels are in good shape. Has at least 2 Hub Caps,if more are needed, these are easily found on eBAY
ASKING: $5,500.00 CASH SALE ONLY / NO Trades/ All Costs such as transport, registration, taxes, transaction costs (i.e., Paypal, VenMo, CashApp, Zelle, EFT banking), etc are responsibility of buyer.
Accepted Offer, or Bid requires a $750 Non-Refundable Cash/Fully Cleared Deposit. The vehicle remains in my possession & ownership until all funds have cleared. Personal Inspection of the Vehicle is welcomed & recommended. If you want an Independent mechanical inspection, it is at your cost plus $100 for my time (however, if you buy, I will refund this to you). I have made a detailed & good faith attempt to describe this vehicle fully, nonetheless, it is being Sold AS-IS, Where-is, with No Warranties, explicit or implied.

All Non-Cash Transactions will require the following: All Funds must be fully cleared into my account before I relinquish possession & sign over Ownership/Title. Additionally, any fees associated with Non-Cash transactions (such as Paypal, VenMo,CashApp,etc) are the responsibility of the Buyer. For mutual satisfaction, I suggest a face -to-face transaction.
Pickup/Delivery: Please factor this time & cost into the purchase before bidding. If the successful bid requires a Buyer Pickup, please call to schedule with me.
I am selling because I am older than I used to be & need to focus on other priorities. I am happy to answer any questions you've got. I am sad to even be thinking of selling this car, it’s time to ‘reduce the fleet’.
So, Come on down & see it. I will bet that you will fall in love with this car like I did. This is a project with a lot of work…but a lot less than most. For the right person, who knows what he’s doing, this will be a great, fulfilling project!
