Can anyone help with to identify this engine by the photos of the block pad? supposed to be a 413. I see a 6, large space then 1 1?

Thank you very much!!
I'll get the distributor stamp asap from the seller. What date does that decode to?

I don't think I was clear. I'm not talking to a stamp on the actual distributor. There is a stamp on the pad just below the distributor.

I think the date code decodes to June 11, 1964. From the looks of your Data Plate, it looks like this car was built August 20, 1964.

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking this car was built in '65, not '64. The sequence on my 9/64 built 300 starts with a 111... which denotes a very early build. The Sequence Number on this car starts with a 3 which to me, sounds like a build late in the production year.

I would also be very leery about buying a car from the guy listing it on eBay. If you read his Feedback, it's not very solid. Kinda like this car.

Thanks Scott! All good points. An engine built in June would have been used within 30 days on the assembly line, so it must be june 11 of 1965? Further more, when I blow up the area you circled on the original pic he sent me, that magnification clearly shows an 8 3! Mysteriously consistent with 383. I don't see a 4 or 1 or anything remotely close to 413!!

Yup, '65. Even then, it's almost 60 days out of the 8/20 Build Date. It doesn't add up. I don't think that is the original motor. It probably was an original 413 car but that's not what's in it now. There is no way I would buy that car with the wrong motor and all that bondo.

Its a 383 not 413, 413 is a raised block, id pad on front rail of lifter valley there was raised block 383 but never low deck 413.

Thanks Dave. Sounds like a positive ID now. I would still love to find a Complete list of the codes online. I have purchased Govier's books to decode in the past but they are not complete and are misleading at times.... unless of course you pay his company GTS to put it to paper.... then it's official Gospel according to Galen Govier!! Don't get me started :soapbox:

Perfect! thank you again. Any info on data plate codes?

Take a look at this:

http://www.simplexco.com/auto/1965/ldatatag.html

It appears the codes for the 413 are either A7, B1 or A9, B9. There are a few codes I do not agree with based on codes on my Tag and options my car does/doesn't have. The codes in question are:

F1, Electric Clock. My car has the F1 code but had a Clock Delete Plate from the factory (I added the clock because I wanted one).
Q (All Codes for Radio). My car has the original AM/FM radio but I do not have any numbers under Q on my Tag.
X8, Seat Belts. My car doesn't have a number under X but was equipped with factory seat belts (front).
Y9, Fender Mounted Turn Signals. My Tag has the Y9 code but my car does not have the Fender Mounted Turn Signals.
