$3000 doesn't buy a lot of rust repair.

If someone paid you $3k to take the car, you would still be deep under water by the time you made it pretty again.

It would be a pretty rare bird at that price point that the engine wasn't tired out and in need of a rebuild so that spun rod might not be that big of a deal. If it is a good runner and it didn't hurt the crank, pull the head and swap a good used rod in and go.
