Clean car
registration says 440 engine (will update as I know more)
Currently runs great off direct fuel
Good interior
easy project or great parts car

So it's not a hardtop, power nothing, no A/C, doesn't run unless you pour gas into the carb and he wants $1800. I don't know if I should feel good knowing mine must be worth a million dollars or bad knowing it will go to an engine harvester.

Askin' and gettin' are two different things. But for a straight car, complete, with (presumably) little or no rust, there's kind of a floor on value, you know?

For $1500, a good wash, some seat covers and a tune-up, you could have a nice car.

Okay, so I know I'm beating a dead horse here but...

I think the problem isn't that poor condition cars are too expensive. I think the problem is that the nice ones are too cheap. What else can you buy for $1500-$1800? Nothin'. By any objective standard, you get a lot for your money with an inexpensive C-Body. But man, you put your time, money, and love into one, and what's it worth? $7k? $5k and mockery from the peanut gallery?

It's tough, and I think it colors our expectations of how cheap the cheap ones should be.

I hope someone buys that for the car, cleans it up, and drives the piss out of it. It's totally worth it. There is no way you wouldn't get $1800 of enjoyment out of that car in a year.

I'm with you on the floor value, something I've always thought. If a car cranks, runs, stops, and isn't rusted up to the point of dropping parts as it drives or water coming through it when it rains, there is a minimum value as a commuter or fishing car. And unlike something newer that might become harder to diagnose without specialized equipment, this is something that anybody with basic mechanical knowledge can repair and for which basic maintenance parts should be readily available. Gas mileage might not be great, but let's see you pack four big guys into a Hyundai.

One does not drive a C-Body nor any other classic car for it's gas mileage that's for sure.

Just as I don't drive my F-350 Power stroke for it's fuel economy..........
