I am always puzzled when they cover license plates and VINS
Yeah, I don't get that either, it's public record. This guy may be doing it out of embarrassment.

I'd screw it off if I really wanted to hide it. Pet peeve.

More manufactured "patina"...gawd, I hate that!!!

Actually, VINs and tag/plate numbers are NOT public record! You can not go to the DMV and ask "who does this tag/VIN belong to?" unless you are law enforcement, a lawyer, insurance company, or other legal entity with the NEED to know. People cover their tags and VINs to keep the dishonest from getting info they do NOT need to have. Notice how many TV and news shows blur the license plates???

I think that actually is manufactured patina, which is sad. I remember that car for sale a year ago, and it had worn paint, but not paint that had been sanded off and then clear coated.

That is true for California. Back in the 70's one could go down to the DMV, hand them a license plate number, and they would give you name and address. Years later someone in Hollywood was murdered in 1989 and it was determined that the perp got the address through the DMV. A law was passed in 1994 stopping that.

Now on Craigslist out here my way lots of cars have their plates covered. Some use their thumb to block one while missing another. Many of these cars have plates incorrect for the year they were made if a California sold car. Lots of cars are brought into this state, from out of state, to get away from things like Carfax as an example. Harder to track and so harder to find out it was flooded in Katrina. So when I see a 2000 car, which should have a plate starting with 4, and instead has a 7 with the story of grand dad in Palm Springs owning it all these years down there, I know it is a lie. I would never buy a car with a plate issued to it way out of sequence as it is more than likely bought at auction to dispose of in California so they hide them. No big deal as the first question I ask is what is the first digit on the plate?

What is decent about this car is the obviously clean floor pan, clean stock interior and clean stock engine. However, I'd penalize him $7K due to the need to source new rims, tires and a complete paint job.

I like it those white walls are cool think they set it off ,But I don't like that furry dashboard :yaayy:

I like the fuzzy dash!!! Reminds me of Cousin IT from the Addam's Family!
