Hello everyone, I'm a vintage car novice and just bought my better half the car she's wanted for years - 1966 New Yorker 2 door hardtop, auto, 440, AC that works, and power seat.

The interior is nearly perfect and the body is straight with one dent and some light rust. It runs perfect. I put a starter relay and an new idler arm on it and it's perfect. It'll be a daily driver.

That leads me to my question. I did use the search feature before posting

I bought some 15x7 American Racing thrust IIs for it and some maxis radial whitewall 235/75R15s. I was told they'd fit no problem, but I'm a little skeptical now that I've got them.

I always get confused when it comes to this tire stuff? Are any of you running that tire size on New Yorkers, 300s, Imperials?

I like the colour combo. Mine has 235/70-15 on 15x7. 235 /75 will fit, but you will have the standard problem of putting the rears into the opening. The axle must hang, or they will not get in the wheel well, even with the skirts off.

If you are going for the "something different" look then I like the stock hubcaps in the photo. Did they make them for any other year or type of car?

Man that looks beautiful, I love the TAs!

I'm glad they'all fit. I'm taking them to my local guy he'll do it right. I'll post pics

Thanks man! My better half loves the American Racing Thrusts, so we are going to go that route. Otherwise, it's staying stock. I think these hub caps are specifically for the New Yorkers I think. Maybe some one knows this for sure

Just store them well... you may want to change back one day. The more I see our older cars with aftermarket or factory styled wheels, the more I'm glad to have the option to change to wheel covers when nobody else has them on anymore.

Otherwise... congrats on your purchase.

:welcome: and stick around, the best bunch of folks who love your car is right here.

Thanks for the welcome! We are going to be storing the wheels and hubcaps for the exact reason!

Lots of us use that size. The late-'60s tire size for Imperials was 9.15-15 which is no longer available. I think Chryslers were typically 8.15-15. The issue is that the aspect ratio on those old bias-ply tires was 80 or 85, and outside of 4x4 tires, the highest ratio we can typically get today is 75, and that's getting harder to find.

For my car, there isn't a single tire out there which matches the width and height of the 9.15-15, and the 235/75-15 is as close as I can get.

WOW that car is a looker! NEED to see more pics.
Welcome aboard, congratulations and happy cruising, man!

Man, that is a ton of helpful knowledge! Thank you, I'm a novice in the classic car world and there isn't a ton of info on these mid 60s New Yorkers. I really appreciate the help

I never noticed before how the front bumper line carried into the front fender. Good lookin' car. (In general and yours specifically.)
