I know/knew a retired Police officer (don't know if he's still alive) who bought a '62 Dodge Dart out of a junk yard because it was equipped the same as the patrol-car he had in that year: 4 doors, slant 6 and a three-on-the-tree. He restored it and won many an award with that car. He converted it to an automatic though; said his legs couldn't take the clutch any more.but I know cops wouldn't have/drive manuals.
Looks to be set up so they don't affect the normal ride, but when a certain load is reached they will start to take some of the extra weight. Similar to variable rate springs, I suppose.
