I remember that car from when I lived up in Massachusetts.
I dont know if it is the same seller or not but I think it is.
We're talking over 7 years ago.
It was in pretty sad shape then and it appears time has not made it better.

What a kool car! I don't think it would have been a Dana and the 3.23 is most certainly an 8.75" ratio.
is it missing all the dash trim?

Absolutely. If I had $50k, I could make that into a $25k show stopper easily.

Only the 440 & 426 4 speed cars got the Dana 9 3/4. Gear sets for dana's were 3:54 and 4:10 with other over the counter optional gears
This car would have an 8 3/4 and likely a 3:23..... 3:55 & 3:90 were the options.

What years did the 426/440 4-speed Slabbies come with the Dana 53 9-1/4" rear - not to be confused with the later New Process 9-1/4".

The dana 53 was a semi floating axle that appeared in the 1940's and was replaced by the Dana 60 in the early 60's.
Used mostly in small trucks and some HD applications in early C bodys.

Well, Will....
Just checked with a couple of knowledgeable guys and maybe we are all partially correct.
In fact, in '66, '67 and '68 (exact years are suspect), 4 speed 440 C-bodies did in fact come with the Dana 53.

Dana 53...learned something new today. Like the Dana 61 I saw a few weeks ago in another vehicle. Didn't know about that one, either.

I suspected the axle was used in the RB, (413-440), 4 speed cars. I've seen 383 4 speed C bodys and they had the 8 3/4 axles. I'm not aware of any optional performance axle packages being avaliable in C bodys either.

I don't think these were that rare. I have owned 3, 1 is convert. Have 2 now. All 4 speeds. When I was younger there was 3 running around Louisville Ky. I 've seen at least 25-30. I think the 4 speed was same price as auto, maybe thats why quite a few were ordered with row your own gears! Fun to drive!

Did all your Cbodys equipped with a dana 53 have RB engines.....?
