hi all -

i didnt know where to post this - the forum sections go to up to '67, then '69-onwards . . . there is no forum section for '68 . . .

anyway i got a 1968 fury III 2d fast top a couple of weeks ago. Its VIN code is PX23

I have a chiltons from 1976, and another chiltons for just the fury models - neither one of those books list the X code as an option in the VIN charts.

I found online a chart that DOES have it http://www.tpocr.com/plymouthvin5.html

Q: Why is it not listed in the chiltons? Any guess?

Thanks -
- Saylor

Only that Chiltons is not the Be All - End All for accuracy. It's a Reader's Digest summarizing all makes and a lot of minutae is missing.

Welcome aboard!

I would get Factory Service Manuals......they are available and cheap enough all over EBay and a few others sites.

I would also get a Parts Manual......make life a lot easier.

thanks. Ive been crawing all over the car today,, not too many mechanical leaks to chase. So far there is a trans drip and a power steering drip. somewhere. wiped everything off to try to find the drips.
The trunk floor is wasted away like swiss cheese, and it floats down the road like an 18ft car with blown shocks...
4 wheel drum brakes. so far the motor and transmission and body stamps were all within a couple of days of each other.. i think its original goods. 2 barrel carter up top trying to breathe. stock intake and exhaust. so far im pretty damn happy :)

Welcome to the site from the Motor City!

Nice car. The X is for fast top.

There is something very appealing about the simplicity of black over white with subtle patina still in place. Thanks for posting pics.

thanks all. i cant wait to start working on it.... it actually doesnt fit in my garage . . . so im out doors right now... until i figure out something...it kinda sucks,, but its a good problem to have :)

Chilton's are the raw material from which yule logs are made. You're using the book for the wrong purpose.
