1968 Fury Dash Pad Removal

I want to recover the dash pad on my '68 Fury but I’m not sure how it's held on. How does it come out and what else needs to be removed to get at it?

its definitely some work, its not a 5 minute job. You have to take the dash cluster bezel with all your controls, the glove box, the clock knob, and dash light panel out… but you have to take the glove box out first. The glove box, the cluster and dash light panel have screws. There are also nuts that hold the actual pad on, and some are 3/8 and some are 7/16. If its an air conditioned car its a little more difficult because there is more stuff in the way that you also have to take out like the air conditioned duct work. Maybe @FURYGT or @mrfury68 can add more but I hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help. I need to replace the speedometer and headlight switch so I’ll be part way there at least. It is an A/C car unfortunately. Do you need to remove the steering column or wheel?

no, column and wheel can stay...glovebox basically has to be squashed a bit and crammed back in through the opening in the dash to install it...so unless its very new the odds of it surviving the r&r aren't good....pics of when I had my dash apart a couple years ago show the instrument cluster still in it...I think that once you pull the dash light panel above the cluster off, you can access the nuts through there?

General idea where the bolt holes are...pardon the rest of the mess...had heat a/c box out and was splicing in the whole bottom edge of the dash that had rusted out

It might be easier to pull the entire dash. I don't think the windshield has to be pulled and if it does, never mind this advice.

But it's not that hard to do otherwise.

It looks better now...and John, the upper dash screws are buried under the windshield gasket on a slab

Sorry for my late reply back, I am sure you may have it figured out already but no the steering wheel and column can stay… but it would make it easier to work on if the wheel was off though. Best of luck!
