For sale is my first - and definitely not last - big Mopar: An all-original 1968 Plymouth Fury III that's been in the Tri-Cities area of Northeast Tennessee its entire life. Her first owner meticulously cared for her until he died in 2003. I'm the fourth owner of the old girl, and just hit 60,000 on the odometer last week.
She's powered by Chrysler's famous small block 318, fed by a 2bbl Carter linked to the indestructible Torqueflite 3 speed automatic. Mr. Tallman optioned the car...uniquely. She has power steering, but manual drum brakes. Remote driver mirror, but no passenger mirror. Also has the lighting package with fender-mounted turn signals and courtesy lights, working AM radio, and optional all-vinyl split-bench green interior to match that pure-60's Mist Green Metallic paint job on the exterior. She also comes with an impressive array of original documentation and the build sheet.
I purchased the car on an impulse in June and enjoyed driving it over 1,000 miles this summer, taking it on a couple of road trips and giving the car some much needed exercise and maintenance. Although in decent mechanical condition when purchased, there were a few things that needed attended to. The Fury has new tires, new wiper blades, a new battery, and a new fuel filter. The radiator was drained, flushed, and refilled in June. The carburetor and valves were serviced and adjusted in July. The alternator is strong and the car starts with no hesitation.
Though mechanically excellent and in perfect operating condtion, the original paint could benefit from a good buffing. There are small, minor rust spots on the deck lid and right fenders. The original interior is in amazing condition for a 45 year old car, but the headliner has fallen around the rear window and probably needs replacing. There is also a tear on the driver side of the front seat.
I would love to keep the car forever. However, I'm about to begin grad school in Minnesota and cannot take the car with me. I would love to help find her a loving new home, and will entertain any serious offers. Thanks!
