Some pics of my friends 300 I'm working on

Nice colour combo. What's with the roll cage though?

We drag race it at Mission Raceway, and if you go quicker than 13.5 seconds in a convertible you need a roll bar. So we have removable 5 point bar.
Our best to date with the 440 is 12.35@110 mph , Last time I freshened the motor I put a stroker kit in it, 510" it made 591 hp and 656 tq, with 906 heads and pump gas. We are hoping to run it in April when the track opens.

A 12 second big barge, that's awesome.

I need to see a video to believe it. I' m usually not the skeptic but ....ive had that kind of engine in a Polara . It wasn't running low 12s

Very nice, love the colo combo. So is it faster with the top up or down?

I used to remember a 2 door Hardtop 70 300 coming to the local strip for test n tune and stayed in the high 11s consistently, in street trim.

I'm digging the color on this Chrysler. Is that Q5?

Not sure what that colour is called, first time I saw 23 years ago it was white. I pulled the drive train out and towed it to the body shop. Terry (the owner) said he looked at available colours from 69' and picked this one. When I built the first version of the drive train my friends dad said it would not hit a 100 mph in the quarter mile, so he bet me $100. On the first run I went 13.59@103 mph. I showed him the time slip and he handed me my $100. Terry ran it next and went 13.69@102 mph. Then the tech dept came over and gave him a verbal and written warning for exceeding 14.00 in a convertible with no roll bar, if he did it again he was banned from the track until he brought the car up to spec. So next run Terry went up and ran in the 13's again, and they quicked him out. The next week we had a chassis shop fabricate that removable 5 point bar.
No problems with tech since.

12.35 @ 110 MPH. Are you running on slicks or drag radials at the track? What are you running for gears? What have you done to lighten the car if anything? What does the car weight? Are the HP & torque numbers at the crank or at the rear wheels? Very interested in hearing more about your car and the drive-train.

Bill
'68 Sport Fury 520" running stock appearing and stock tires (G70-15 bias ply) with a best ET of 13.45 with 3.73 gears
'66 Chrysler 300 493" (Flyin' Whale) running wide 50 series radials with a reported ET by the prior owner of 12.11 with 3.54 gears.

I'm not sure you caught the engine specs. With 510", the HP & torque numbers stated and drag radials or slicks, a 12.35 is not unrealistic. I am told my '68 Sport Fury should get into the high 12's with some suspension work, wearing down the tires for better traction and a more experienced driver and that it would get well into the 12's with slicks or drag radials. The prior owner of the Flyin' Whale states that he ran a 12.11. I will see what the Flyin' Whale will run one of these days.

The engine I had built in 1988 was built by a professional race engine builder. The few specs this fellow listed were close to what my 440 was built with. The bill in 1988 was $4,800 bucks and almost 20% of that was head work. The compression was 11.5 to 1 with a 292 duration on the cam with a 510 lift . The gears once the engine went into my Fury were 373s . While that engine pulled hard in those two Cs Im not convinced it would have ran into the 12s . Though I was guaranteed it would run 10.0 if I had put it into an A body.

I saw his numbers ...

Actually Fury GT we ran 12.35 with the 440, not the stroker motor. I never dynoed the old motor but built a very similar 440 at the same time I stroked Terry's motor, and I dynoed them both the same weekend on the same dyno. The 440 was 525hp@552tq, while Terry's did 591hp@656tq. I used Terry's 950 AED carb on both motors. Its funny too because I had to richin the carb way up on the 440 to maximize the hp. When we race Terry's car we use 30x9 Hoosier radial slicks, the diff is a 489 case with 4.57's and a full spool, He broke the oem sure grips so many times after about the 6 or 7th time I said thats it ! That spools been in there for about 15 years and never had another diff problem. The trans is a stage 2 shift kit and 4000 stall, The motor has a 950 aed carb, M1 intake, ported 906 heads, 1.6 roller rockers, hydraulic roller cam around, .570 intake and .590 exhaust at the vavle, Eagle stroker kit, windage tray, 1 3/4" headers, electric exhaust dumps, Holley blue pump, The car also has a 1000 watt stereo in it with 14" sub woofers, and in the early days had a custom trailer hitch on it to tow his 25' cougar boat. the car weighs around 4900 lbs.

Is the '69 300 your car or Terry's? I am a bit confused.

Running slicks makes a big difference as do 4.57 gears. Sounds like you have a stout rear end set up. I'll bet that you have good air in BC. Would love to see videos of the car going down the track. Thanks for sharing.
