Okay guys not really a for sale car as I already bought it but thought I would ask for all of you collective C body brainpower on this one. I have told Dave about the car and we both said it should NOT exist. I am still working on getting a pic of the tag from the guy as he NOT a tech guy (no cell phone for pics) and really really swamped for time and the car is stored at a spot he has to drive to. Great guy to deal with as he is an old school car guy and he promises to have me fender tag pics by friday. the car was a good enough car that mod top or not it was worth the price he wanted. :yaayy:

But here is the history on the car. it is an original paint car, original top car. He bought it from the original owners who are in the mid 90's now and they said the car was a floral top (mod top in plymouth) car they ordered new. No these car were NOT supposed to be ever available with this top to my knowledge. I have seen a few plymouth fury cars with gator grain tops but never any other C body with a Mod top on it. Anyone out there ever seen a car like this?? I will post a pic of the tag when I can get one and I am sure the car has a sheet in it somewhere and I will look for that when I get it here. Here are a few far away pics of the top that he had.

Sorry mods if you want to move this to another section please feel free to but I know this one gets the most eyes so I thought I would ask here to see if anyone has any input on it. I know I should have waited to get a pic of the tag first before posting this but I just can't seem to hold back my polara excitment on this one. Got another keeper for the herd!

Nice score! That combo looks awesome to me.

Dam those pictures for being so shitty, I want to see this baby out in the sun.

I'm going to guess it's a dealer installed top. It's too bad it was put on an F3 green colour........weird match for me.

Most of the mod tops I have seen are of course green with the green mod top and most have been the lighter F3 green so that would match what alot of them are. I wonder if it is a special order top car as the tag would show V19 for that. It is just a waiting game now to get the tag pics and see what made this car the way it is. I actually like the combo like it is. Being an original car I will do all I can to keep it unworked and keep it as close to original as I can. The 318 is not starting as they got it hot when they drove it for the last time, parked it and it never started again. So hopefully not terminal and I can get it going but sounds like they replaced it's carb, all the belts, hoses, timing chain, dist, and plug wires and it would still not start.

Well Dave if the 318 is shot I am not going to cry as you know I am a 440 guy and I have one sitting on the shelf looking for a home:3gears:

Thats what you said , I figure even if the SB is running its coming out, you just cant stand for it

If it is the real deal, I would do anything I could to keep it original.

as mentioned and talked about before it wasn't planned to exist by Chrysler.

It has the blue floral which was originally on the Satellites. It was only available on blue and white cars.

The yellow barracuda floral can be found on various green tones.

The Dodge all had a green Floral roof but it was a mid year intorduction.
Maybe it wasn't released yet when this top was installed.

Due to the colour combination with F3 green my guess is a dealer installment.
I am curious waiting for the turn out of the fender tag picture

Congratz , did you contact him after he posted pics to the ad ?

Okay guys well the mystery is kind of solved as I got the tag info from him, not a pic yet as he can't text it but he gave me the #'s and it is a green top on the tag, but he says ALL the paperwork is there with the car from day one, all the service records warranty stuff, manual, just a big pile of paperwork and he was going to dig though it and see if he could find the original invoice or any paperwork showing the top being added as he says the older couple who he got it from swear that the top was like the when they bought it. So we all know how that is, without a paper trail it does not matter so I am hoping there is some kind of doc left in the paperwork showing it was added at the dealer to at least show it was a day 2 option on the car. So the factory mod top polara does not exist here. But still a cool car in my eyes. Here is breakdown of what he gave me for the tag
M25- body sill mouldings
M31 belt mouldings
R11 Am radio
V1F Green top
A01 Light package
A26 Polara Value package
A48 Dress up group
G11 Tinted windows
H51 A/C
L36 Auxilary driving light
F3 Light Green
F3 Light Green
L26 ???
E44 318
D32 Auto

Anyone know L26?

First thing i,m thinking( 26 on a tag ) it,s the larger radiator .

If not factory the top must have been custom made by a saddler as no Fitting top for a C-Body could have been ordered from Mopar. Unlikely the guy would have put that floral Vinyl on stock for one car. No prove still, just a guess.

Is L36 the code for superlite? I would guess that from the description "auxillery driving light"

If the old couple have any connection to the Detroit area or Chrysler corp, I wouldn't be so quick to discount their story. Actually... wouldn't Polara's have been built new in Belvidere, IL? That's not far from Indiana. Lots of things that aren't supposed to exist made their way out of the company. Just heard a credible story about a '55 t-bird with an all-Mopar drivetrain, suspension and Chrysler "property" tags. I suggested it may have been a mule (testing) platform for the Chrysler Falcon. The guy telling the story had never heard for the Falcon, which made his story that much more believable.

As for not having a "top" to fit; they weren't pre-cut from the assembly line. The workers trimmed the tops from much larger sheets of vinyl, and it's not unheard of for the wrong parts to arrive at the plant. Still happens. Ask the 2013 Viper owner in Canada with a side mirror that says اوبجكتس ان ميرور ار كلوسر ذان ذاي ابير

That doesn't mean it WASN'T done at the dealer. Just saying, weird stuff can get built if you know the right people.
