Hi!

I wondering if someone know anything good about the 1970 distributor retard solenoid system? Everything i heard is negative about this system. It makes the exhaust valves run much hotter and docent make the engine feel so good. True?

I have one of these on my '71. It was an emissions device. It retards the ignition timing when you take your foot off the gas, for braking, etc. It also retards the timing when the engine drops to low idle. There's a contact on the carb that completes the ground circuit. As soon as the throttle is opened slightly, the contact is broken. It, the Retard Solenoid, should have no effect on engine performance once the engine speed is above curb idle. I was going to get rid of mine, but decided to leave it. You could just make sure it never grounds if you don't want it to work.
