I would like to convert my 1970 Newport convertible to disc brakes. I've been told that there were some C bodies that had disc brakes in 1970 Police cars, Chrysler 300 etc. Has anyone done this kind of modification? Do I need a new spindle/knuckle plus the backing plate and brakes? Will the drum type master cylinder work with disc brakes? Where would I get what I need to get this done?

you will need a new master cylinder.
Disc brakes were optional on all c-bodies. They fit from various Cs from 1969&up

I've read both here and on the drydock that finding a good used 73 setup will save you in parts costs in the long run. I'm sure others who know more will pipe in. BTW welcome and please post pics of your ride.

Fred, can I throw this out there if we're talking economics.
The '73 setups are getting very pricey because of its popularity. It's payback comes over multiple brake jobs.
On your classic, you have to consider if this brake job will be it's last under your ownership. For a lot of people it probably is. Guys with an absolute keeper that racks up the mileage? Yes. Guys who go to Dairy Queen once a week? Probably not.
It may make more sense to bite the bullet.
