Nice car. Best of luck.
Where were the figures obtained?

(this car is currently appraised and insured for $12k, and if fully restored is valued at $17k according to value guide)

Are these bolts (holes) the location of the step pad mounts?

So this car is worth $12,000 and buying it for $7,000, adding in another $10,000 will make it a fully restored $17,000 #1 car is what you're saying.
I'm just trying to do the math here using your figures.

Yes, that is a 9 passenger bumper. I bought a rechrome bumper for my 69 6 passenger Custom suburban and it came with the step bracket holes stamped in. With help from Tom, here on the forum I located and restored a pair of the steps.

Don't forget that a #1 car is supposed to be a recent professionally restored car. Knowing that professional restoration could easily be 30K and up one can see why there are few if any #1 C bodies. It just doesn't pencil out except for those who are ignorant of reality. Obviously only an owner who just had to have the very best possible might say damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead with the job but I'm sure that is no one here.

The best this car could hope for is grade #2 and that is done by either a very good amateur or one put away sealed and clean at low mileage. This car is over priced unless a "I gotta have it" person pops up. There is no such thing as a $1 return for every $1 invested in most all old cars.

As nice as the car is, A complete repaint and color change, wrong wheels & tires and all the other mods makes it far from a survivor in the true sense of the term.
Price is right now. Someone should jump on it and enjoy it.

A club here hosts an annual show where everyone who registers gets a "Best of Show" award.

Yes. I know all about awards when there are 40 categories and 50 cars show up...

I can't speak to the first award (it came with the car), but the second award was 1 of 3 given out at a show attended by about 40 cars (only 1 category & 3 awards total, all selected by the hosting club members, not the show participants & their buddies).

I agree, about "the true sense of the term", but it did survive, where most from that era rusted out before the end of the seventies and/or were destroyed as derby cars. The only mod is the stereo (I have the original wheels/hubcaps), so it's not that far from stock. A true survivor has it's original paint, and this one does too, it's just underneath a really poorly done whitewash. LOL

Do you have the broadcast sheet? What sort and what areas are the previous rust repairs? thanks
