1970 Plymouth Fury III Convertible

IMG_0376-940x705.jpg

The original 383ci V8 was replaced with a 440ci from a Dodge truck. It was rebuilt with a mild cam and wears a correct cast iron intake manifold, valve covers and Super Commando air cleaner. Fuel is fed in through an Edelbrock 1813 Thunder Series AVS Carb. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the original 727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic, which was not rebuilt during the refurbishment. The transmission is said to shift well and shows a small drip from one of the fluid cooling lines. The motor was last serviced under 1,000 miles ago in 2015 with a coolant flush and oil and filter change.

The body was restored on a rotisserie, and the underside has been painted the body color. The 8 3/4″ posi-traction rear differential runs a 2.76 final drive ratio. Stainless side-routed exhaust exits ahead of the rear wheels through MagnaFlow mufflers. The front suspension was replaced and new leaf springs were installed at the rear, along with new shocks at all four corners. Brakes are power-assisted drums at all four corners, and the seller notes that braking performance is adequate but could be substantially improved with discs.

Restoration pictures in the gallery show the condition of the frame and body during restoration, and document the installation of the motor.

What go you think of this "tribute " rag top that never existed will go for?

That. Car has been for sale for what? Two to three years now? They made it desirable to a smaller amount of buyers.

In the original Craig's List posting he was asking $25k. Is that a starting bid at $5k? Much more reasonable.

sorry if this has been posted before.

I don't really care for the exhaust exits in the purple version either but you can't argue the effort done on the car overall.

It's a C body that would have been done if they had targeted a different demographic in 1970, not just families.

Had they pushed or advertised cars like this they may have found a market. If they had pushed the 6 barrel it surely would have

I still like it.....A LOT

well, I can just agree cousin.

I am really into originality but this is a 1 of none as there was no SFGT vert.
I dislike clones but this is another story.

The idear of building one and option it out as if it would be a classical Muscle car with all the muscle goodies: good idear.

The exhaust disturbs me a lot though. Dual exhaust with bright tips in the back would have been correct as well as road wheels as used on the SFGT.
Thats what I would change

It certainly seems that C platform offered more flexibility. They could be done into a muscle car, or be a nice cruiser. The E and B platform was what it was

Sold for $12,200 according to BAT website.

I would like that one a lot better in teh original color, and rear-exit exh with correct tips (or downturns, even).

IMHO an A12-style Fury GT would be a cool thing to tribute. The combo of convertible, purple, TA/AAR exh - not so much.
