I have seen her before... very nice car. Fair price too. Wonder how much that seat repair is going to be? And the MN definition of rust free differs from the FL definition. That car needs some immediate attention or those rocker wont last.

This car probably wasn't from Minnesota.

Seats....$5k-$6k minimum.

Gotta guy up here in Williamsport, PA that is supposed to be very good. Does all kinds of custom interiors etc. Just have to get it over there and take my lumps.
Maybe he gives volume discounts, seeing that my 67 Imperial and the Esprit could use some work too. Lol

If you ever get a quote, please share... I am very interested in the pricing of this. Funny thing about that work is how labor intensive it is, and the labor prices and mark ups are wildly different between shops and parts of the country. Used to know a guy who did custom upholstery... high end couches and such. He didn't touch cars because they were too much work and his "friend" discount was 600% markup. I had a buddy who worked for him for the year before he retired, he would have set him up to take over. My buddy decided against it... shame, not too many opportunities like that are out there. My buddy didn't want to lease the shop and be responsible for that much overhead... no vision.

I took the cordoba to a guy here in orange park. He wanted $1900 to redo the fabric on the front and rear seats. That was fabric alone, no seat backs. He also wanted to do it in cheap 90's material. Needless to say, the car didn't make it back.. lol

Its expensive work for sure though. That was for basic cloth. I can see lether being stupid $$

I'm gonna be in the hole a thousand bucks for 2 bucket seats.
TWO bucket seats...

And there's still the rear bench, the carpet, the headliner, the door panels.....

DAMN! And you supplied the pre made covers too, didn't you?

I think making a seat cover just hit my bucket list. I don't want to do anything as stupid as try working leather as an experiment, but I have an old sewing machine that was my grandmother's... nobody wants it. I don't want to take away from the work of a true craftsman... but I just cant see it being all that hard.

I have installed factory pieces and convertible tops... but no sewing since they forced us to take Home Economics in HS. OK I said it, lay into me if you like... I have enough other stuff to do, so it would be a long time before I tried. I just cant see the money in this being right.

What does it take to fix the climate control on these? My 71 imperial, the prior owner hooked up a fan control button. I have never tried messing with it though because ac on these classics can sometimes be more trouble than they're worth.

A major, major pain in the *** let alone a serious headache trying to source obsolete parts!!My `69 is still functional,( touch something made of wood)but I have a go to parts car.

Yep. My headliner and vinyl top cost me $1100. The work is beautiful and almost all had to be from scratch. Once done, you get to look at it, sit in the car and drive it, and appreciate it you won't give it a second thought. I don't.

LOL... If it weren't that hard there would be no need for upholstery shops, or there would be one on every corner. I'm sure those guys aren't using grannies old pedal machine.

I agree that their prices are for the most part rediculous, but they've got us by the short hairs. Unless you want it to look like a pimple faced sophomore in home ec did it.

My theory was I'm at my happy point with the car. It was time to enjoy at least my *** in class. That hurdle is over. I'm at peace.

Good luck doing Formal seats.....

That would be the pinnacle of difficulty IMO... might need more than one practice swing before that even crossed my mind. Leather is expensive and supposed to be difficult to work with too.

I don't mean to say its easy. I just cant see it being so hard that we couldn't do it. I see folks in here welding, painting, rebuilding engines and sometimes doing full on restorations, all as first time experiences. Some of the workmanship is a little rough, but lots of it is amazing. I suspect that with a little time and patience, there are many here who could pull it off. I have done the installation of factory pieces, so as I see it the only thing I haven't tried is the pattern making and sewing. I don't think I would, as a first experience try to rebuild the foam or anything too crazy... just see if I could make a new cover from an automotive grade fabric that looks ok at the end.

Look, I'm not saying that anybody should do this. Its not wrenches and metal, but that doesn't mean its beyond our ability.
