I am wondering about the power windows for a 1973 Imperial. Generally speaking, do these work well, or are they just as good as the rest of Mopar's power window setups from this time period? If there are known deficiencies, are there any known fixes to these to make them operate better, or is it just a lost cause? I just acquired a four door 73 Imperial and would like to know the story on these bad boys. I have one window that goes up really slow, while the others seem O.K.

Any input would be appreciated.

My opinion:

As with most power windows on older cars, windows that get rarely used tend to move slower or even stick, probably due to hardened grease in the sliders or the rubber of the weatherstripping getting hard.

Admitted, there is a weak point in the power window motor gear. But that is quite easy to fix, thanks to this valuable thread from user Mr C.

They mostly just need some TLC. I've found that the drivers side rear is the most problematic, at least in my cars, probably because no one usually sits behind the driver if you take 2 or 3 passengers. Usually everyone enters from the curb side and parks it there. If you were a smoker you'd never put the rear window down in fear of a hot ash being back in. There are plenty of fixes for issues here in the forum... Great Place to learn things!

Thanks for the replies. I thought I saw that you could use a more modern electric motor while still using the original window regulators. I just cannot remember where I saw that article, but I know it was concerning Mopar power window systems from the late 60's to early 70's. The benefit to doing this is that the newer electric motors use less amperage and are faster, so there is less stress on the wiring and switch gear. Maybe it was an older thread here -- I seem to have a heck of a time searching for threads I want to learn about. I'll keep at it though............

Thanks again!!!!!!!!

You can use more modern PW motors, but you have to be careful of the bolt pattern (How they bolt to the mechanical assembly), and the orientation (there are left and right side motors), as well as the electrical connector ends changed a few times over the years.

So just as a hypothetical example, if you need a motor for your drivers side window, and you get a motor say from an early 90's newyorker, the same motor might be flipped upside down on the passenger rear of the newyorker. ;)

Cardone 82-43 is such a part. The bolt pattern is supposed to fit, and where screws held the original motor, this unit has studs and nuts.
