I need to go down there and pop the hood and see what engine it really has.

Carrman, Great, I sent them an inquiry. I think it must be a 360. I am not sure a 360 was an option for that year, but that would be my guess. Let us know.

Thanks,

In '77, you got the 440 standard, and the 400 was optional. I don't believe the 360 was a New Yorker option in 1977, but I might be incorrect. Anyone have a '77 order form or dealer brochure?

I'm sure the seller was too damn lazy to bother changing the engine indication in the ad. Everything he sells is probably 350-powered; i.e. Chevy.

More than likely a the 440 or 400 like Patrick says lazy seller

It has a two hitch but that don't mean everything

I can go down and get the hood opened to see if it's a big block or small, but when it comes to telling a B from an RB I'll be a bit lost.

measure the distance between the valve-covers side to side of whichever BB you have handy for comparison and take your tape w/ you

or you could just check the VIN :eek:s_dancing2:

Ill see if I can get the VIN.

For 1977, the VIN engine indication is:

360 = L
400 = N
440 = T

Plus, of course, if the underhood EPA emissions sticker is still in place, you'll see it there, too.

Well I'll go look if they are open today, and I'll help anyone who might be interested in her.

Ok, she has 84,000 miles, one family owned, and a 400 with Lean Burn in all it's glory. Started right up when I hit the key.

Just for future info... My 78 came with a 360. California car. I never new it was even an option. I always that they were either the 400 or 440.

All California 78 NY'ers/Newport's were standard with 360's (160 hp). The smogged out 440 (185 hp) was available as an option in California. No 400's available in California C-Bodies for 1978.

To All,

I drove down and looked at this car. I have some more pictures. Let me know if you wish to see them. Runs good, did not drive it. Heater/A/C does not work, looks like some electrical wiring problems. Paint has a lot of chips scratches and other blemishes. Rear seat stitching separated at top. Offered $2,000 and they countered with $3600. I walked.
