Not mine, but fun to see on Craigslist...That's still a C-Body, right?

1984 HIGHWAY PATROL PURSUIT CAR, RARE SURVIVOR, GRAND FURY

$7000

FOR SALE...1984 PLYMOUTH GRAND FURY "HIGHWAY PATROL PURSUIT CAR"

Very few of these cars exist today. But in 1984 this car was doing service with the Ohio State Police. It was a supervisor's car with extra comfort option seats and simulated wood grain accents.

This is a true vintage police package car with Certified Speedometer, 100amp alternator, posi-traction rear end, and handling package. It even has a working police pursuit hood mounted tachometer. Rare!!!

The car was ordered with the largest V8 engine available in these cars, a 360 4 barrel with HD 727 Torque Flight automatic transmission. The body is perfect with no rust and original paint.

The car sports police push bumpers, service spot light and even has doppler speed radar....not working.

The car has brand new Cooper Cobra speed rated tires too. You will NOT find another.

Come check her out!!!!!

Hood mounted tach??!? That's worth $1000 by itself, right?

Best damn reliable Mopar I ever had as a daily grinder.
My Dippy I had for almost 10 years...

nice M. couple things.

1. Didn't think any 360's made it intothe M squads (many were HP 318's with 360 heads and 4 barrel carbs tho for many all years there were M-squads ('82-'89) . Last 360's were in the R's through 1980 MY IIRC.

2. Never seen a factory hood mounted tach in an M before.

NOT trying to start an argument/debate, NOR dis the car in the OP (its cherry) .. just communicating what I thought. Happy to be proven wrong with better data/superior knowledge :)

I do remember our department putting in a 360 into an M body after it had the common "engine block heater" blow out under hard acceleration. The temp gauge never showed a problem until too late. It was made to take temperature of liquid not air. If I remember correctly the oil pan needed to be cut and shortened and re welded.

360hp (E58) lasted through 1980. my old 1980 E58, L-code VIN Mirada J-body.

Also fairly sure there were E58 R-body squads (st regis '79-'80, and gran fury '80 only) thru 1980 as well (i've owned several).

The hood mount tachometer is an added on accessory. It MAY have been dealer installed. I don't remember the tach when I spec'd cars in that era. The E 58 360 was available, but not pushed by the fleet sales.

My guess would be the drastic jump in gas prices in 79-80. Gov agencies wanted to cut costs

I like the car and I'm sure it's a police car but I don't buy that Ohio State Highway Patrol added a hood mounted tach. I can see them ordering the 360, large state agencies may have done that but if it was an OHP car, the hood mounted tach would be less than useless in a lake effect snow storm.

I tried to find pictures of OSHP M-bodies and I only found this 81 LeBaron which was supposedly a Test car.

Pennsylvania State Police did run some 85 Gran Furys but not many. Most PSP cars by this era were Crown Vics. Correction...PSP had some 85 Dodge Diplomats, not Gran Furys. Never understood why considering they were historically a Plymouth police force.
