I like the vague D.B. Cooper connection, whatever it is, for doubling the price of the car.

This Maserati TC (Turbo Convertible) is a collectible rare version of a scarce car designed by Pininfarina and built in Modena, Italy by Maserati for Lee Iacocca. This one is the version with the 200 hp 2.2 liter L4 16 valve turbo charged DOHC Cosworth/Maserati engine coupled to a 5 speed Getrag manual transmission, very sporty.

501 of the '16 valve' TC's were built with the 501st being a one-off special build for a Chrysler exec. This car is identical to the one-off except for the luxurious wall to wall black Italian leather. (The one-off had bordeaux leather with white exterior). 150 of this type were built in 1990 and there were just 15 with this engine/color combo. The TC is the only car to be badged with the Maserati Trident imbedded in the Chrysler Pentagon.

It is fully equipped and has new R134 cold ac, synthetic oil, everything works. It comes with factory manuals, tool kit, umbrella, hard top cradle and documentation. As you can see in the photos it is a two person roadster/convertible with a cloth top that tucks neatly away under a metal tonneau and a removable hard top like mid-fifties Thunderbirds and 1970's-80's Mercedes SL's. It's fast, economical and more comfortable that either the Tbird or SL. Note the low mileage.

The car has a very interesting connection to the D.B. Cooper hijacking case and it gets its share of attention at car shows.
.
It can be seen by appointment at the world famous Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum across from the McMinnville, OR Airport.

(A running 1990 v-6 automatic transmission version TC (red) parts car is available with this car, see pics.)

I never knew that they built that, but it looks like all the other Chrysler offerings other then the emblems, grill, taillights, roof, etc... The motor looks like the engine they put in the special Dodge Spirit around 92, I thought that one was a Lotus built engine.

I talked to a man at a car show this year with one. The Maserati motor was expensive to rebuild ($8k). The U.S. motor ones are less expensive. Look on YouTube, last year Hagerty had three guys buy different cars and sent to a big collector car auction. The TC did terrible and they lost thousands compared to what they paid.

I believe you're talking about the Spirit R/T. built in 91 and 92. Choice of only two or three colors. Fastest American sedan and Motor Trend Car of the Year.

Plus, the spirit had a few more horses iirc.

Sorry to get off topic. Sort of been one of my dream cars. lol

How does a crime from the 70's have any connection to a car from the 90's ? ?

Yeah, I read through that whole thing just to read... nothing.

Having owned one of these cars and knowing their history very well... Must. Resist. Temptation. To. Correct. Misinformation!

The 16 valve, 5 speed is the one to get if you like these. Most were anemic automatics.
There was a porthole hardtop available for them also.

The LeBaron TC was a loser from the day they introduced it.

I remember these cars being discussed back then as being some kinda holy grail car. We just thought it was a dressed up GTC. The Spirit RT was a lot more fun to drive but still had the Old Man's car syndrome for many. Had a lot more interest in the Eagle Talon or Daytona back then. Hard to believe the RT was the fastest sedan that year. I'd still take the Talon over one.

Im thinking he must have D B Cooper confused for Jon Voight.

Lost thousands? Isn't that a crying shame. There must be a crocodile around here somewhere for tears. Maybe Stan's backyard pet...?

I, myself, have never wept a tear for any speculater who lost their shirt.

A speculator is a person who trades derivatives, commodities, bonds, equities or currencies with a higher than average risk in return for a higher-than-average profit potential. Speculators take large risks, especially with respect to anticipating future price movements, in the hope of making quick, large gains.

I'd like to know the DB Cooper connection too.

I've talked to a few guys with these cars and they all really like them. I think they look too much like a run of the mill Chrysler product from that era to be very exciting.

I'd still kinda like to own one... and I have no idea why.

My guess is one hijacked an owner of all his money then escaped by jumping (read pushed) out of an airplane with a parachute and was never seen again....

from Wikipedia:
"D. B. Cooper is a media epithet popularly used to refer to an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the airspace between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, on November 24, 1971, extorted $200,000 in ransom, and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite an extensive manhunt and protracted FBI investigation, the perpetrator has never been located or identified. The case remains the only unsolved air piracy in American aviation history."
So it sounds like the FBI doesn't know who he (or she?) is, yet the seller of the car knows it's connected to said individual somehow? Right.

Kinda funny, the Chrysler crowd shrugs off the TC, the Maserati folks probably shrug this one off on their side.

And then there's this one - anyone know the Chrysler connection to this one?

Correct, I believe the Spirit RT was rated at 225.
