Not mine,

2009 Holden VE Commodore SSV Ute RHD rolling chassis

We are selling a 2009 Holden VE Ute SS-V legally imported from Australia, already in the US here in Charlotte for 9,000 OBO.

The missing parts will come from a donor car, typically a Pontiac G8.

If you wish to legally drive this car on the road it will need to be converted to LHD, there are a number of shops that can do this. One of them is located here in the Charlotte area.

For any parts you would need located in Australia we can help with that.

Model VE8EP80

The reason why it's lowered is due to the springs being removed prior to loading into the container in Australia.

When these vehicles are imported they are supposed to have the drivetrain removed, which includes engine trans and diff.

If you want to drive this vehicle on the road legally it will need to be converted to LHD. If you never want to register it for road use you can leave it RHD. One reason to leave it RHD could be for instance to haul it to a drag strip (these came with 6.0L V8's from the factory). VE's when converted to LHD start at $45,000. A G8 or GTO donor car will work when converting these over to LHD.

Send a message to setup an appointment to come in and check it out. We are open M-F 9AM-4PM

If you can wait a few (15 for a total of 25?) years, you can keep the wrong-hand drive.

Is RHD illegal? I haven't paid attention to rural mail carriers for years, but they used to have a few options available.

I don't think it's just the RHD, it's that it hasn't been crash tested... which is BS because it's safer than a motorcycle, but that's the gubbiment.

Judging by the photos, this ute has already been crash tested, this would be classified as a write off vehicle or a repairable write off at best. The seller's claim about the need to remove the running gear prior to shipping seems strange. Either way, this thing as it sits is not worth much.

Yes, the UTEs been schmooked and needs some rack time. It's already on US soil, and not a common site over here.

I'd put my money on it having been in an accident and then stripped for parts and the rest sold off.

I've never heard of importing a RH drive car to the US being illegal and needing to convert to LH drive.

Now on the other hand there was a article in HotRod back in the late 70's where a Australian imported a used 1970? Dodge Challenger 440 (6bbl?) that had pictures of the RH drive conversion work being done in Australia before it could get tagged/regged for road use there.

Don't know if that law is still in affect as I've seen LH drive cars in car show pictures via the web era days.

I know you have to have amber colored signals. There was a Charger that found it's way over there, brought back a few years ago and kept the amber lights as a reminder of it's past. Not sure about the LHD down under, and I didn't buy into that "needs to be converted" BS either.

My '04 Pontiac (Holden) GTO has the fuel tank in the trunk and works better if on an angle or w/pass rear tire on top of a board for refueling. Note the Aussies fuel on the passenger side not the drivers side like us in the USA. The motor area under the car has a large steel plate held on with four bolts. Like a off road package on a 4x4 truck. I was told both items are because of the crappy roads in Australia. My car also has no truck key access from the outside and if I remember correctly the drivers and passenger door has no key tumbler on the outside. But winding thru the 6 speed stick shift in a LS1 is so sweet of a sound. Here is a nice YouTube short video of a top end run but too bad it an automatic.

It's legal to drive LHD vehicles in Australia, most States only allow vehicles 25/30 years old or more, I believe that the Northern Territory allows any age vehicle to be registered and driven in LHD form.
