anyone know anyone that has a new / recent year model ram truck that stinks like something crawled up in the vent and died?

a friend of mine smelled it the day after i got the truck, but i didnt smell it yet. then around 1500 miles, one day i got a good whiff of it.

now, at 2500 miles, it smells like im riding around with a dead guy in the back seat.

i called a local dealer and got the 'never heard of that before...' story. but if you google for it, there is pages over a span of years about it.

i cant find a TSB, but i found something called a star case #s1407000004 - that is exactly it.

so - how do i get these jokers to fix this under warranty? my truck is like, a month old? maybe 2?

Good luck. My mother had a caliber with the same exact issue. Never did solve it.

In 1974 I bought a 1973 Duster, blue with black interior, console, for 500$, yep, five hundred dollars.

The car smell like somebody died in that car.

I stripped the interior and find a sandwich in a bag under the carpet that was left there by an assembly line worker.

Take it one of those detailer shops in the hood....

They'll figure it out and get it squared away.

I hope you took the door panels off to get the rattling empty booze bottle out that went with the sandwich.

Don't know if it is real humid in your area,But mold in the heater,a/c box has been known to cause foul odors in many late model mopar products due to poor drainage.

Never tought of that.............but of course I get rid of the carpet, undercarpet, etc and let ''air'' the car for weeks and finally save the car.

Last July I bought a brand new Black Express Ram, first thing I did was to ''take a good smell'' of the interior, the saleman was looking at me in disbelieve.........LOL..........

Yep Love them carcinogic polyvinylcyanitate hydrocarbons out gassing from all the new plastic, alcantera, and vinyl in the morning.

from what ive read, its some purple OAT / HOAT antifreeze, reacting with sulfur-cured rubber hoses? they can change all the hoses to some other cured-method (iodine or something?), flush the system with distilled water 3x, change some container vessel, and it goes away.

the other possible is the OAT/HOAT is reacting with a chemical used in prepping the engine block that was not cleaned off well.

i think its the 1st condition.

Is it in the cab or under the hood?

The hose theory sounds good, but I would figure it would stink under the hood too.

If the dealer isn't helping, start calling Chrysler themselves. Keep track of the names of who you have spoken too etc.

Get the dealer to put it in writing that they aren't going to fix the problem. That step is very important and was told to me be a former Chrysler zone rep.

I had an Olds 98 that smelled like something had died and it and it had. Apparently a mouse had babies somewhere in my heater and when I started the car and the heater fan started it sliced a mouse in half. When they disassembled the heater there where still live mice and one dead one.

Apparently it came in a fresh air vent. It may be a possibility in or out of the heater. Mine was definitely stronger when the heater was on.

smells like...victory...

"Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that"
