I just picked up a 67 newport with a 383 and the starter is bad. I have a few 440 starters laying around in the garage. Are they the same? Thanks in advance.

Yes. And the same as a small block starter AND a /6 starter! The HEMI starter is different. Later-model Magnum V8 318 and 360 use a smaller starter, and it too will work.

Thanks Patrick.. that is what i was hoping to hear. I will slap one i have in ... and take the shot one to a place near me that rebuilds alternators and starters... they use good parts and i know who is doing the work :)

Same design starter for /6 to BB. ORIGINAL units had different amp draw requirements, i.e.high compression BB starters had the most torque.

There is also the modern small gear reduction starter too.

Yes and no... Essentially, there were two different starters, there was a large "frame" starter and a small frame. This will explain the difference, although they all bolt up. There were also improvements over the years, like a gasket around the solenoid in 1970, that accounts for different part numbers, but they are really all the same.

Here's a screen shot of the 1969 parts catalog. You'll see the 2095150/2875560 PN starter used in almost everything.

There was also a direct drive starter used in some slant six HD manual trans trucks and taxis that was similar to the hemi manual trans starter.
