440 Carb Pad Height

So I'm leaning towards the Edelbrock Performer carb, and it's making me think about the intake manifold. I'm thinking about getting a Performer manifold as well. One concern is the height of the carb and manifold combination. I read some (unconfirmed) reports of hood clearance issues on later Imperials.

Edelbrock lists the carb pad height of the Performer as 3.80" front/4.80" rear. Does anyone know the height of the stock 440 manifold?
 
I'm not sure of later Imperials but my friend had a 68 with performer and lid was pressed into the pad with a very short air cleaner, remember the 67-68 Imps where a different animal than anything else.


Difference in the manifolds are 1.25 inch taller than stock if I remember right

I don't quite understand your comment. Do you mean that he had to have a short air cleaner in order to clear the hood? I have a '67 Imperial, by the way. My comment about later Imperials was confusing, but intended to say that I have only heard about clearance issues on later (fuselage) Imperials. I've never heard anything one way or the other on '67s.
 
Yes his was a 68 shares with 67, air filter was short I should have said could not use stock air cleaner with edelbrock performer intake, will hit the hood.

That's a meaningless dimension. From where to where??
Two different manifolds will have two different base lines.
Like he said above, all you can compare is the DIFFERENCE on OAL installed height.

Best bet is to keep stock intake, get a 800 cfm edelbrock avs thunder series (has sprung air door on secondaries like a thermoquad) you can block off heat crossover if your going to take intake off (they sell a special valley pan for this) you should have no problem in San Diego ( I never did) this will cool your intake enough to make hot starts easier
 
The stock holley that was on your car is only about 600 cfm and not a very good piece except in original parts box at sell time. Gain from the intake will be minimal and it just doesn't fit well under the hood sorry
 
Thanks. That's better than any other measurement I had gotten, which was none!

I'll grab some Plasticine and see how much clearance I have under the hood. Some of the other comments here make me think that I'll be sticking with a stock manifold.
 
Since the important question is how much room there is under the hood, this photo of the impression left by the air cleaner on the pad kinda answers the question: not much!
