I find this interesting in that the seller is asking $100K for the car. Supposedly a #1 car would be a tad over $90K so I don't know what he is thinking. A close look at the details and one can see lots of swirl marks in the paint along with many small faint scratches and pitting in the chrome. Maybe a high grade 3 or low grade 2 at 55-60% of the asking price but nowhere near his claims of $160K at auction. Of course one could ask him why doesn't he puts this up for auction then?
1949 Buick Super / Roadmaster Woody Wagon
For his price most everything on the car should be either OEM one way or the other. Cheap worm gear hose clamps don't cut it. Last, why no pictures of the remarkable interior?
1949 Buick Super / Roadmaster Woody Wagon
This is an EXTREMELY RARE 1949 Buick Super Woody Wagon - Series 70. Some people refer to them as the Roadmaster. The Buick Series 70 Super (Roadmaster) Estate Wagon is very rare as the 1949 model was one of a kind, it was only available that year.
There are varying reports of how many were built, some reports say approximately 2000 were built, and some say 1800. What seems to be the prevailing number is that about 653 of these Series 70 Super Wagons were built and 21 of them were for export. Recent reports are that only 15 - 20 of these wagons are left. A much lesser number of them in the condition this one is and actually on the market.
The Series 70 Wagon is Rear Wheel drive with of course Automatic transmission (Dynaflow). It has a big Block inline 8 Cylinder engine with about 150 HP. The Wagon will come with Buick Shop manuals so you can maintain and service the car properly.
This Wagon is in extremely good condition, including the original wood which has been restored before. The car has undergone restoration before as well and can be seen in it's condition. Other than that, is all original and in amazing condition (See Pictures).
This wagon has been in the same family for over fifteen year was in storage for a few years, it has recently been brought out of storage and was restored once again and serviced to get it back on the road. The engine was serviced, the radiator replaced along with the belt and radiator hoses. We also replaced the battery with a brand new Interstate Battery.
She runs and drives excellently. The Dynaflow transmission shifts as it should and all gears work perfectly. The Dynaflow transmissions were known to leak, and this is does trickle about a teaspoon of oil once a week if not driven. The car is in impeccable condition and would be rare to find one at all, let alone in this condition.
The interior is remarkable and the amazing craftsmanship is in tip top condition. We have recently ordered new carpeting for it to spruce it up a bit and replace the rubber front mat which gets brittle with age and falls apart.
The leather is in excellent condition as is the wood and other interior trim. It has the standard bench seats front and rear. It is currently registered and of course does not require SMOG. It holds a Clean California title.
All the electrical features work and the wagon still has the original 6V Electrical system - it's pretty much all original. The radio works and even the rare Driver's Door Spot / Search light works, however the bulb in there is burnt and I am having a challenging time finding a replacement. The search continues for a bulb.
All the chrome was recently polished and is in great condition - this included all the turn signals, trim, lights, etc.
The car exterior is in excellent condition. It does have a chip here and there in the paint - thanks to road chips and debris that occasionally found their mark.
Current NADA and auctions values on this Wagon go up to $160K. This is your chance to acquire a true American classic for a great price. We will consider potential offers that and fair and reasonable. Only serious inquiries please. Viewing of the car will be by appointment only - send me a note if you want to see it with your contact information and we will schedule a time to view the car.
