Why do so many people think it takes a Chevy engine to make it go better?

I have up for sale a 1952 Chrysler Imperial. Car was on the road this summer and ran and drove fine. I just took the engine out today and don't need the car anymore. All new wheel cylinders and new master cylinder, but the vacu ease system still needs to come out. Seats have been recovered not original and I have a new carpet for it. Drivers side floor has been repaired but not perfect. Underside car is in great shape. Power steering box did leak also but not bad. This car would make a great donor for a new engine and tranny upgrade. Was going to do a SBC and turbo 350 tranny in it but I don't have the time. Tires are good and has all the trim except a crown on the hood. I have some extra parts also. Email me or text me any questions you have. Car is worth the asking price just in parts alone.do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers

another engine donor, probably for a convertible...

I think whoever marketed the 350 chevy was a genius, look how many make mention of it, still not right thou..

The Hemi from that is pretty worthless except to restore another old Chrysler or Imperial. The bellhousing is cast in the back of the block and you really can't use any trans except for the 2 speed, cast iron Powerflite that came with it.

That seems like a pretty nice car to rob a usless except to it, engine from. But the SBC comment demonstrates the mentality.

I am not a purist I don't believe. I think that car would be a fun driver. I don't understand taking an old Chrysler product and converting it to an SBC. Name the last time anyone got all puffed up with pride about putting a stock 350 in anything. Why not take that Imperial and put a 318 in it if you are going to update the drive line.

The SBC is cheap and easy to get. It's hard to beat that. It's familiar to a lot of backyard mechanics too.

One other reason to use it.... The starter is on the right hand side. The frames in these cars were designed for straight six and straight eight engines. The steering gear, the starter and the exhaust manifold all interfere with each other. With the starter out of the way and a bigger choice of exhaust manifolds/headers, it's a lot easier to make the swap.

BTW, my 53 Windsor has the stock flathead six in it....

I had a 53 Chrysler and you are right... the 331 that was in there is specific to the 2 speed but not just a powerflite, it was "Fluid Drive". Meaning it had a clutch bolted to a torque converter... Hence the giant over hang cast onto the back of the block. Very odd setup and only used for a certain few years. When i was a kid I bought one that turned out to have a cracked block. I purchased a 354 from a 56 Chrysler only to find out it wouldn't work... Very frustrating. The owner ripped me off but I was only 17 at the time and had little experience with these... Never the less it is what it is.
I still have the heads with the rocker, valve covers and intake w/carb if any one needs them. The heads are in immaculate condition btw.

My brain hurts trying to figure out what transmissions they used back then. They had some with torque convertors, some with fluid drives and clutches, some that were "semi automatic" and some that were real automatics.... Some even used engine oil (13 quarts) for lubrication rather than having their own oiling system.

Like I say... it makes my brain hurt.

My 53 has a fluid drive with a clutch and the M6 trans.

Ahhhh the golden age of motoring.... LOL No wonder I couldn't figure out what to do with it when I was 17 LOL

With that long.hood and high chassis that is a prime candidate for a drive line from a van or 2wd pu.

FatBoy makes front chassis for them.
They'll make them for any engine.
Me? Slant 6 - 4bbl.
