Looking for some information. Going to look at / buy a 1965 Monaco this coming Saturday. The current owner has sent me some pictures and I noticed that the color of the trunk interior is not the same as the outside of the car. I found a couple other examples of this online and was wondering if this was the way the cars were originally made back in '65. Iv'e included a pic of the car and a pic of the trunk interior. Thanks in advance for your replies.

The floor has been painted, probably with a rust paint, like POR-15 or similar.

The rest of the trunk looks like it's splatter painted. Hard to tell, but that's probably stock.

Inside the trunk of my 65 Chrysler is body color body plugs are unpainted black. I couldn't imagine Dodge doing it differently. That looks to me like a tan or gold car that was repainted black.

They did a sloppy job on the floor and painted over the plugs. But the rest looks right. I don't know what prompted splatter paint v. body color, but I have seen it both ways. My Dad's brand new 68 300 had a dark splatter paint in the trunk. We drove that one right out of the showroom.

Here's an example I found online.

Interesting.... Kind of looks like it depended on who was working the paint booth that day. Now that I think of it, I had a friend with a 66 Plymouth VIP that had a spatter painted trunk, but my 65 doesn't even have a hint of it. As I remember, my 69 300 trunk was body color too. Maybe Chryslers weren't spatter painted if they came with the cardboard wheel well and quarter panel liners in them...

If you buy it remember to update us and PLEASE include pic's. We all love pic's

Absolutely. I've always wanted a 60's muscle car and have been wanting a '65 Monaco for probably 10 years or more. My dad had one when I was a kid (I'm 59 now) and always thought it was a great looking car. Not many cars had a console that ran all the way through to the back seats. Plus, I never saw another car that had the wicker or rattan inserts on the back of the front seats and along the sides of the interior. Truly unique.
