I debated on saying anything in this thread, but there's been just enough discussion to give my 2 cents... Or is that a nickel now?I want to give it that muscle car look, you know? so I'm thinking bigger tires and rims, and a possible hood vent. I couldn't find any aftermarket hoods with scoops, so I looked at the scoops by themselves. but the reason I come here is to ask if what I'm doing is a good idea, or if I'm ruining a classic by making it something it was never meant to be.
Anyway... I agree (and have already posted) that the overall condition is a factor that needs to be considered. But really, we all dream, right? I look at cars and think "I'd love to have that" and then even think of what I would do with it. Then I remember a few things, like lack of space and that my old bones don't like too much heavy work.... and I have grandkids the OP's age, so there I am... Of course, there's an off topic car on FB marketplace that keeps calling to me, but Mrs. Big John sighs and says "where you gonna put it?" I also swore off 3 things that this car is, including being black, but I digress.... I still want it.
So, dreaming is really good... And I think asking a few questions to feed that dream is good. If we stop dreaming, the fun will stop next.
I think this is a car that doesn't lend itself to a "muscle car" look. It's a big 4 door sedan. Maybe the "sleeper" look where the car is faster than it looks might be better. But, if this were my car, I'd consider using the patina that the car has now as the final look. Some black wheels with black wall tires (turn the white letters inside when mounting) and maybe some small poverty type hub caps or even baby moons. Same size tires/wheels at all 4 corners and don't jack the rear up. The long shackle "going downhill" look never seems to have gone away for some reason.... The fast street cars never did that.
So, patina look, stock looking wheels and no hood scoop. That's the kind of car that gets attention at the cruise nights and shows. Do what you want under the hood, although I personally prefer a low key look there too, without any bling. Keep the interior low key too, but I'm not a fan of the Mexican blanket look that some do.
There's another bonus about keeping the car "lowkey". The cops are going to pretty much ignore the car, especially if you keep it on the quiet side.
Feel free to say "OK boomer" if you want, but I've been there, done that, had the tee shirt but wore it out years ago. I've owned my share of fast street and muscle cars.
