I think I might be going crazy, but can someone help me understand the headlights.

It was my belief that H5006 (3-prongs) was the low beam (meaning the headlight on the bottom) and H5001 (2-prongs) was the high beam (meaning the highlight on the top).

In my situation, the notches on the back of the headlight bulb fixture are matching up with the opposite housing. The H5006 (3-prongs) has notches on the back that only fit into the headlight housing on top. The H5001 (2-prongs) has notches on the back that only align with the notches in the bottom headlight housing.

Anyone have any ideas? Or am I incorrect and the "high beam" is actually the bottom headlight housing?

Hi-beam is the lower bulb. Has to do with aiming angles? Surely someone more knowledgeable will enlighten us as to the reason. Lindsay

Who knew. Haha it’s been so long since this car has been running I certainly couldn’t remember.

When the high beams are on, all 4 headlights light up with the lower ones being the high beams as mentioned. I believe this is different from modern cars that light up independently.

I had a 68 Fury VIP..
Top is low beam.
I recommend using a harness with relays to save your wiring and switches from burning out.
Also get the headlights aligned for opptimum night vision.

Thank you everyone. I’ve got the harness and relays from crackedback on FABO.
