Stupid question, since there isn't a tach in the 300 what do I use to read the RPM so I can tune this car? I have a Dial Back Timing Light, but it doesn't show RPM.

Thx

Generally, due to the "error" in dash tachs, they are not that good for doing tune-up settings.

Back in the later 1960s and such, most aftermarket tachs were rated in "% Error", which usually was something like 5% of full scale. Which meant that a tach for 6000rpm would read more accurately than one for 8000 rpm. Many bought the "high number" tachs for their visual impact, I suspect, rather than their absolute accuracy.

With a full-scale error of 5%, that would also mean that with a full-scale of 2000rpm, you can see how that would be more accurate.

@halifaxhops periodically has "for sale" ads for what you might need.

Happy Holidays!

MSD sells a timing light made by Tecktronics. It's a very high-quality timing light course it's price is about $200 strictly a stand-alone with the built-in tach as well as advance monitoring capabilities. Bang for the buck it's a pretty good multifaceted tool. The accuracy level is also top notch high quality. I own an older version of that timing light they offer myself and and the Stand alone capabilities and sensitivity it's definitely what you're looking for.

Best to invest in a decent timing light, with dial back and tach settings. I bought an Innova 3568 Timing light with tach many years ago and has been a pretty decent unit.

I have plenty just calibrateded prices are all over th place. If you are still running points you also wnt one with a dewll feature built in. PM if needed still. Hey on dial back timing lights never trust a analouge one with a knob you turn notorious to be off, digitial are pretty much spot on. Now on a meter I prefer analoug with a needle, easier to see say dwell variation unlike digital which will keep "searching/changing"
