That should last about 6 months before it pops out

If you look at the interior shot...it appears to be trimmed out nicely. Wonder what they used to plug it up and trim it out?

I'm guessing they left the original plastic (Fiberglass ?) plug in there and then threw a lot of mud in the gaps.

It appears to have the vinyl top nipples left on it...seems the intent was to pit a vinyl top back on. If so, then there's no need for the filler, just re-use the plastic gap cover held on by duct tape when you put the vinyl back on.
Honestly, the 69-75 LeBaron's all need the vinyl top...there's no way that I've seen to keep the rear plug, have no vinyl top and avoid all the fill cracking.

Guys, just curious as to what the "plug" you are all referring to is? Thanks.

This is a stock rear window. The car is missing its vinyl roof and that is all. The 61-63 Imperial Le Barons had this sized rear window. It was drasticly smaller that the other Imperial line cars.

I don't believe they did anything. Mr. C?

The factory used a sheet of plastic...clear... the kind of stuff used in packaging. It was held on by tape over the gaps and the vinyl was then applied. You can still make out the factory plastic in this pic...I had removed the bottom piece (you can make out the gap) I hadn't done the side/ top pieces yet.

Nope, there are large gaps to the factory fibreglass plug that was covered up by the vinyl top on the 69-75 Imperials and 78 NYB Salon. the 61-63 LeBaron plug had a fibreglass rope that was leaded over then painted.

Here's the top of my 74 Imperial, shows the kind of gaps that must have been filled with bondo.

At least no rust issues in the rear window frame area with this plug. :)

The '69-73 Imperials are different than the '74 and newer style. Look at pictures of the rear window view like those in Google Images.

Right, you have to remember what an unbelievable bargain such a piece of metal was, even more so if you take the low priced Full Sizers, how many months of median income to were the equivalent of a Fury in the early 70s ?

Different story in Europe, in the 50s I think a small home could have been bought for the price of a 59 Impala, it eased a bit in the 70s though, with higher income and weaker Dollar.
