I really hope someone jumps on this:
"I am selling a 1973 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham. This car is original as far as I know. The car is from north dakota and the body is rust free. It has 44k miles on it. Has the 440 cu in motor, but it is locked up. I am asking $2500 or best offer."

Oddly enough, I once bought a '73 NY'er (green 4dr) with a "locked up" 440 for $50. (1992)

I put in a new battery and drove it home.

Thanks for correcting the pictures. My neck was hurting!

That's a nice looking car, and I've always loved the '73s. My parents came close to buying one - ended up with a four-door Maverick. Gag!

Why would the motor be seized with only 44,000 miles?

That is a pretty cool car, man. Wonder if he's put a breaker bar on the crank to test that locked up theory?

I'm guessing ignorance, as Carmine points out above, or mice in the air cleaner. There are no engine pics.

I'd rate the odds 50/50 on the engine being seized based on the pole barn, trucks, Charger, Suburban and general woodsy-ness of the background. These people can probably ID a bad starter or shoot a deer. In other words, they look resourceful deplorable. If it was this guy...

I would agree. Dead battery, trying to start in drive, can't figure out how to insert the key, etc.

Then again, sometimes those neutral safety switches go south and people just want grandpa's car gone. If somebody stole all my c-bodies overnight, (hahahaha) I'd jump on this.

Maybe some "Marvel miracle oil" shot down the cylinders to break it loose.. I agree though!! 44,000 and seized?

Someone better go check it out so we can solve this mystery. Really good buy if the motor isn't shot yet

I wouldn't be surprised if the starter was just junk by now in that environment. If the air cleaner was on it all those years, it should have had a chance to be free................................

I talked to the guy in Texas trying to sell this gem on Ebay currently, and asked him if the engine turned. I thought for sure it wouldn't, but he said he tried it and it does spin (he has 100% feedback), and that is a humid Texas environment with no heads on it and sitting many years in a garage he said.

The starter won't kick so the engine is seized

Exactly why I posted what I did ....
