I swear I don’t understand people that try and sell ANYTHING providing crappy pictures and write ups..
As illogical as it may seem, there is a school of thought (at least in my head) that says few (not bad) pics and little detail motivates the serious buyer. Too much might turn away a potential sale.
Example: The NYB I just bought had a pretty skimpy ad. Just enough pics to see it wasn't a total pos and make me curious, but also lacking detail.
Good pics would have shown the faded out hood/trunk, door dings and a big rust stain running from the roof trim down the 1/4. I probably would have written the car off. But because I was curious and it was reasonably close, I decided to have a look-see. (My wife showing interest didn't hurt either.)
When I arrived, I noted all the issues mentioned (and a few more) but also saw the perfect seats, steering wheel, and OE paint. The rust turned out to be a clip that was making a horribly disproportionate stain (I buffed it off before taking pics). I wrote off the door dings and fade once I reconciled it would need paint.
Of course if I wasn't local, I would never chance lousy photos, so maybe that factor cancels out "local" buyers.
The best strategy might be to run a skimpy local ad that attracts the curious and serious looking for a deal. If no bites, run it again with great pics and a higher asking price.
