Off to Savannah, Georgia this morning for a week of jazz. My youngest son, Chris, plays alto-sax in his high school's jazz band. The jazz band was selected to participate in the 'high school' competition of a week long jazz festival in Savannah called 'Swing Central'. Leaving this morning and will be back home late Sunday night.

Looking forward to some southern hospitality!

Sounds like a great time. Good luck to the band.
We were in Savannah the 1st of December. You need to go find "River street", (it's close to the river). Great little pubs all up and down the street.
Also put Fort Pulaski on your list of places to see
.

Dang Will......

Do you drive with the top down year round? LOL!

Savannah is rich in history. The first operational scheduled railroad started there. You can tour the old, old roundhouse that still stands. The haunted house tour is pretty cool, too. River Street is a lot of fun! Shame you were not there over St. Patrick's Day, as Savannah has the third largest celebration in the US, behind NYC and Chicago. It's a wonderful city, but I'd spend Winters there, if I had the wherewithal. The Summertime is oppressively humid and just plain nasty!

Glenn you are not the only C Body guy into jazz. JazzandMoparguy is a well know jazz guru here up in Canada. Ross probably spends more time over on the Dry Dock.

I grew up listening to big band and Dixieland jazz and still love it! I have Stan Kenton as one of my Pandora stations.

Back home trying to catch up on things. Had a great time in Savannah. Good food and good music. My son's high school jazz band came in 3rd, out of 12 high schools, competing in 'Swing Central' which was a portion of the overall "Savannah Music Festival". Didn't come across a single "C" body. though. Glad to be home.

Ellie and I ocassionally jump on the Amtrak here in Bham, ($35.00 and 7 hours), and ride to New Orleans for a weekend. We find a room in one of the "shotgun" houses in the quarter and bar hop listening to the jazz, blues & dixieland bands all up and down the streets. $10.00 will buy you a 3 day trolly pass, don't need a car.
