Hello everyone!

I'm Tobi from the north of Germany and I'm happy about my new achievement:
A 1969 Newport with 383-2 and A727.

I saw this car and fell in love. I love the shape and appearance, and of course, the power and sound. While researching information, I quickly came across your forum and find it's great!
I recently bought the Newport in Germany. It was imported in 2019 and first registered in Germany in 2020.
I'm currently trying to shed some light on my car's history, but I'm still at the very beginning.

The Newport is in very solid condition, but it needs some attention, especially inside. I want to keep it for a long time and restore it piece by piece, driving it regularly.
It has a spartan interior. I think you call these cars strippers or bare bones – we often call them accountants. In the past I didn't want to have such bare cars, but today they actually have a special appeal for me.
I've been reading this forum for weeks and have just registered. I'm excited by how much there is to discover here. Kudos to all of you!

Regarding the details:
There are many touch-ups to the paintwork – often of mediocre quality, and there are still or already new dents and scratches. The interior is unfortunately pretty worn out.
The body, however, seem really solid. That's what matters most to me.
Did I mention I love this car? Yes... :D I particularly like the Avocado Metallic combined with the black vinyl roof. According to the Fender tag, the roof was once green. I don't know when or by whom it was changed. I suspect it was replaced with a black one at some point, not just repainted.
The hood was definitely wrapped in Germany by the previous owner – that much I learned. Even though it's not factory, I think it's very fitting. I think it will stay that way.
It also has a gold interior with vinyl upholstery – quite fitting, but I'm planning to change it completely to black. I would like that better. The upholstery and carpets are completely worn out anyway.

I'm curious if this car has been mentioned in the forum before, or if anyone even knows it. That would be a real coincidence, I think. I've read a lot here, but haven't found any references yet. However, I do know the last owner from Nevada by name. Maybe I'll try to contact him, and maybe he'll even respond.

There's something about the dummy clock - somehow timeless. ;)

Okay, enough writing for now. I'm looking forward to spending time here in the forum.

Best regards, Tobi

Welcome Tobi! Where exactly are you from in Germany? We would love to welcome you at BBTR - with or wothout your Newport. It's a great place to connect with fellow Fuselage C-Body fans. Let me know if you need help or parts. I may be able to connect you with the right person.

Hi, thank you for your offer of help—I'm afraid I'll want to come back to this several times.:D

I'm currently working on the basic reliability: starter, battery, ignition... There were/are some issues. But all minor things.
The car hasn't been driven much in recent years and apparently has received even less maintenance...
But now it's in the best hands.

By the way, I'm from Lower Saxony.

Hey Kowalski, I hope to see you in Richmond at St Josephs Villa for the Collectors Show on June 14th with your ride.
Look for my 71 Fury Custom with parts sourced at Leons!

A brief history update:

The last owner in the US recently responded to my email and wrote that his grandparents bought the car new in 1969, and his grandmother drove it until she could no longer drive.
During that entire time, there was only one minor accident, which resulted in a dent in the rear bumper, which is still visible upon close inspection. The vinyl roof is indeed original (dark green) – it just looks almost black to me... Now that I know, I can still sense the greenish hue.

The grandparents lived in Seattle, Washington, where the Newport drove for three decades. In the late 1990s, the grandson took it to Tennessee and parked there in a covered parking space. When the family moved to Reno, Nevada, it was garaged, he told me.
The car has been driven very rarely since then and was finally sold in 2019, ending up in Germany shortly thereafter.

I'm currently hoping for some old photos and documents from that time, which I asked the last owner for.

Tobi
