Here I am, winter weather veteran, skilled snow driver extrodinare, and I went in the ditch going to a local store! Turned, well, I turned the wheels, the corner and kept going straight. I hit the brakes, instant lockup, and accelerated into and through the snow bank and down into the ditch. I felt awesome! It's amazing how many trucks drove by, looking at me, and kept going. Thanks, townfolk! Laura came and asked a guy she knew working nearby, to pull me out. Just needed a little tug, and it came right out. I was driving my '08 Dodge Avenger, which is usually pretty good, but the freshly plowed street had no sand or salt and was slick as can be, with ice under it. The truck needs an overhaul, so I guess I'll drive like grandma in the turns for the time being. Oh well, a good start to winter driving for this guy! No pictures were taken, so it must not have happened, right? Oh wait, I just told you it did, damn!

Can happen to the best of us!! You're ok, the Avengers ok, so all's OK!!!
And this new thread will give us all something to reply to (well those of us that deal with winter roads)

I always hit the empty wal-mart or high school parking lot and practice my winter driving skills.

I like plowed roads, but not when they don't out down something for traction, we don't all drive a vehicle that weighs 16,000 lbs. The car will go through a foot of unplowed roads, it has a nice wide track for a little car, just not made for ice. I hate slowing down! But I hate being in the ditch more, I may have uttered a couple four letter words just after it happened. :wideyed:

Blue Earth, Minnesota - 1978, Halloween, 7:30 at night, highway 169, driving 65 miles an hour, cattle on road(four lane), hit and killed 2 steers which weighed approximately 1200lbs, wife ends up under the dash, I broke windshield with my head, totaled new car, highway patrol said he had been out to local farmer numerous times because cattle where on the road, my insurance company paid the farmer for the steers, what a deal!

Damn! Laura's ex wiped out some cattle on that road too, between here and Winnebago, must have been a problem for some time, I've heard a couple more stories about cows on 169. You know where about I live, perfect cruising roads every direction I look, I don't purposely speed, but I'm amazed at how my car(s) like to cruise at 70mph, and do so effortlessly. Great, now I want spring to be here. Gonna be a long winter if it's only three weeks. :(

Been there done that, cause 6800 worth of damage

Here's a couple shots of my New Yorker before I bought it. I was told the PO hit an elk somewhere out west. The car was originally from New Mexico.
