My 78 NYB came with one. Total junk. How did he bench test it without an antenna? There are a lot of additional parts that are required under the dash pad that you need for it to work which are not available anywhere including several wiring harnesses, antenna and related parts. I know because I searched for them.

I have one on my '78 NYB St Regis Coupe and came that way from the factory. I would not mind a spare and will keep this one in mind.

I had heard that there were some OEM radio's like this back in the day. This is first time that I've actually seen one. I do remember a few aftermarket ones being available in the late '70's. The problem IMO wasn't so much the radio's themselves, but the "disguise" antennas that were used with them.
I still have one of the harnesses for an aftermarket "disguise" antenna laying around somewhere. The antenna itself is long gone. The idea was that you could use a normal looking antenna for your CB radio and your AM/FM unit. IMO, they didn't work worth a crap. A buddy of mine installed one in his car. He went through two AM/FM stereos shortly after. Key the mike on the CB a few times and kiss your AM/FM tuner good bye, in his case anyway. :)

The factory correct antenna would automatically raise and lower when you turn the radio on. There wasn't a power antenna switch on my 78 NYB. I do have a factory power antenna switch now with a factory power antenna and an aftermarket radio/CD/MP3 player.

Fairly common, gang. I worked for a Chrysler-Plymouth dealer when these were available in cars and trucks.

And probably 99 percent of them don't work.

Maybe Pete has the only operational one....
