Have owned a number of old cars previously. Just bought a 1965 Dodge Dart last summer. Am working on it currently. Just wondering if there are specific things I should look for on a 1969 Plymouth Sports Fury convertible as I give a good inspection? Any tips? Things to watch out for?

Thanks for any help!

Welcome, Glenn.

No aftermarket parts for the Plymouth. Plenty for the Dart.

One can still get stock 'replacement' parts then? Like say I need to replace the distributor cap and rotor. I can still get those can't I?

Yep, all the common stuff is available anywhere.... tuneup, starters, alternators, etc,.

basic mechanical parts are no problem. check for rust on the subframe, subframe mounts and rear rails.

For best results should I look from under the body if possible or just make sure to take a good flashlight with me?

Weak spots on those cars are the lower rear 1/4's.... floor boards, trunk floor & rear frame rails.... rear torsion bar cross member....... The area between the trunk lid and top molding, (sometimes refered to as the "dutchman panel") & front fender lower dog legs.

A weak magnet and flash light will be helpful.

Welcome and good luck with the Sport Fury.

Ummm...this 1969 Sports Fury I'm thinking of checking out is a convertible. Never owned a convertible before. Is the top a manual or electric? I dunno!

They are a common area for rust on all Mopars, The floors, Frame rails, the 1/4 panels, the fenders corner of the doors, edge of the trunk lids and a few smaller area's.

Just check these area's, Other than the metal work, I absouloutly love my III Convertible.

What Drivetrain does the Sport your looking at have? And what color is it?

Nick if you finish your project you should get a medal for saving a fusey

take a flash light with you. the subframe and rear rails can be easily inspected from looking underneath. if you can, pull back the front carpet to check the subframe mounts. if you pull out the plastic plugs and things look really rusty then the mounts are probably rusted. all convertibles are more likely to rust in the floors. years of leaving the top down, torn or shrunken tops, and damaged seals allow the water to just sit on top of the pans, trapped between the carpet or mat, and the floor. unless your car is from an extremely dry climate, expect rust to some degree in the floors.
