If you are near Washington DC tommorrow there is a 70 year commemorative end of WWII V-E Day flyover with over 50 war planes from WWII flying in precision formations over the monuments. Very cool! Might be the last time in history 50 WWII war planes flying together.

Watched a show on the Rolls-Royce Merlin Engine last night, pretty high tech for the day.Just hearing one gives me the shivers let alone fifty at once!

God I'd give my left nt to see that. I am very interested in that time of our history!

I get chills watching 'Battle of Britan Day' flyovers with Hurricanes and Spitfires on U-Tube! Takka takka takka! Beware the Hun in the sun!

That mustang was killer for its day from what I've read and seen. (that IS a mustang, right?)

There's a link that I posted and the link has a "click here" to watch a live webcast of the flyover today. I'm sure that it will be youtubed so everyone can watch the flyover too. I live 50 miles away and I can't get out of work today because of a critical test we are conducting.

Here it the link again...

Bob: Thanx for the heads up. The mall is a two block walk from my office. I'll be there, and I'll try to record some video with my phone. Hopefully, it won't come out too bad. . .

It'll be sight to see and the sound of these warbirds in the sky will be outstanding!

What was the top speed for that bad boy?

Gary....There is an awesome event at the Millville airport this weekend that will have some of the planes , others and the Thunderbirds. It's a car show and air show.....it's worth the trip...

The B17 is hungered about a mile from my house. I always have to stop what I am doing and go out on the drive to watch the flyover. Some afternoons I don't get much done, and depending on the traffic pattern at the big airport the '17 fly's over at about 300 or 400 ft. which is an awesome sight.

I too get the shivers when I hear those WWII planes flying. I think I might actually have a seizure, or bust into tears, if I saw 50 of them flying over in formation.

Thank you for appreciating ,The two planes that won the Battle of Britain and saved my country from tyranny :yaayy:

Just saw the list of what was flying. I'm not quite sure this was the biggest flyover or not. Definitely the most advertised. In 1999 the Doolittle Reunion was held in Modesto. On the Wednesday, before the weekend, there was a flyover of the USS Hornet before the planes headed to Modesto. In the flight I counted 15 B-25s, 1 P-47, 1 P-38, 1 Corsair, 1 Bearcat, 1 Avenger, 1 Hellcat, 1 Texan and 3 P-51s. Too high for an effective camera shot to take in the whole view and not be specs. Did go down to Modesto to watch the bombers do their 100' flyover of the runway in a demonstration. The best part being on one side of a fence 50 yards from the line of bombers when 30 P&W engines started.

Next best was maybe a year or two later when a B-24 and B-29 Gigi showed up at the Oakland Airport parked in a far corner by a fence. Open for a weekend tour but I knew they were leaving Monday morning. Off from work and was down at the fence, 50' from the two with six other people, to watch the two fire up their engines and taxi out. The only thing better would be taking a flight in one.

All the planes that flew today will be on display Saturday at the Smithsonian [h=1]STEVEN F. UDVAR-HAZY CENTER at Dulles airport[/h]
Admission is free.
