I thought this is pretty cool....

[h=1]The Memphis Belle is Coming to a Town Near You in 2014![/h]The Memphis Belle usually flies between 10am and 3pm each day with ground tours after the day's last flight. If you're in or around any of these upcoming stops, we welcome you to come out and see the plane on the following dates.

It is really neat. I live about on the Ohio river & They flew a pattern that went over my house each time, for several days. Flying low & close enough to the ground, I waved at them & they circled around me. Turning that plane is like turning the Bismarck. lol. Cool sounding plane. I think it was around $500 for the short ride, high, but on the flip side riding in a plane like that won't be around forever. IIRC there is around 10-15 left, that can actually fly.

I think there are only 9 left in flying shape that aren't in museums. We have one based out of a small airport up here and the price is about the same to go up. As much as I'd love to, that's a lot of cheese for a short flight!

It's not many, what ever the number. Yes, a pile of dough to fly. Each time they flew over, I thought about that. Probably 10k of airfare for 30 minutes.

How much? I'd really consider doing it

Closes't I've been is a C130 and one of those Navy 2 engined planes

Yep, I've got a million miles in C-130's.

Another cool plane is the Enola Gay (doesn't fly anymore) which is completely assembled and you can walk right up to it and look into the cockpit at the Smithsonian near Reagan Airport in DC (Virginia really). They have a proctor standing right there that will tell you step by step the entire mission of bombing Hiroshima.

We used to have the Planes of Fame museum just outside of Minneapolis, but they moved to Texas a while ago. It was always cool seeing the old planes flying around the area. Never got a chance to go up in one but strolled around theproperty many times. History in the air.

I love these old warbirds too. We had a huge event a couple year ago. It was in honor of the Doolittle Raiders. We had 25 B-25s fly in for the event at a near by airport. The coolest part was all 25 planes took off the last morning and flew to Wright Patterson Air Force base. I will not forget that morning.

I was in the area where they were flying the B-17.

Dang...it moves in the air very slowly! I can see why they needed fighter escorts.

Was at a Doolittle reunion in 2000 down in Modesto. There were 15 B-25s present that weekend. A few days before they all flew over the CV-12 USS Hornet at pier 3 Alameda. For those that don't know that is exactly where CV-8 USS Hornet had the B-25s loaded on board in April 1942. All told 21 planes flew over to honor the event. The other six were Mustangs, Corsairs and Thunderbolts. At Modesto all the B-25s flew low passes over the airport for picture taking. This was after they all fired up their engines while lined up just 100 feet from the fence line. The crowd was enveloped by both the noise and the black exhaust breathing it all in.

Also in 2000 a short visit was paid to the Oakland Airport by the only flying B-29 along with a B-24. Not publicized much so few people down there but I was there. Was there the morning the two planes parked within stones throw of the fence line fired up all 8 engines. WOW, you had to be there and be that close...

Love the pictures here is one from a Mustang show near Columbus. Over 100 Mustangs in 2010. There was even an Englishman who disassemble his Mustang down, to fit in a shipping container and had it shipped over. I believe 4 men reassembled it in 2 week.

I grew up one mile from this museum and worked at the airport for a number of years as a teen. They have one of only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the world. It was always a huge thrill to see (and hear) it lumbering around the skies. it's currently on tour in the UK attending shows with the other airworthy Lanc. http://www.warplane.com/lancaster-2014-uk-tour.aspx

I remember when I was a kid that old bird was on a concrete pad across from the Goderich airport, heard when they took her to Hamilton the biggest huey in the Canadian fleet had a tough time getting her off the ground! And that was with the wings off!!Lancaster-to-Hamilton-via-a-Chinook-helicopter.jpg

Nice pictures everyone! Thanks for sharing.

There are some old birds where I work but we can't take any pictures or talk about them.

I've always thought this was cool since I saw The Best Years of Our Lives

Flying in the nose of one of those things
