I bought this 64 Chrysler Crown Imperial in 1982 in Palo Alto California. I was told it had been Barry Goldwater's campaign car for the 64 Republican National Convention. I do not know if this is true but the broadcast sheet did list "1964 Republican National Convention San Francisco California" for the delivery destination, rather than a dealership. I have since misplaced said broadcast sheet so I ordered a copy from Chrysler. Unfortunately the copy, taken from microfilm, has the delivery destination blank.
The car last ran in 1996 but with no reverse. It has since been parked in the New Mexico desert near Albuquerque. The car while solid will require restoration. The body is rust free, with some earlier minor body repairs starting to appear. The interior is sun baked and all foam in the seats is turning to dust. The drivers seat has worn through and the carpet is shot in front of the driver's seat. The upholstery is green, covered with zebra seat covers, faded to green. The headliner has one seam that has come loose.The engine is a 413 and the differential is sure-grip. The car has air conditioning. The transmission is a 727 automatic with pushbutton selector, that last year it appeared. The radio has automatic station seeking. Windows, doorlocks, radio antenna and seats are all electrically activated. Own this classic luxury car from the golden age of large powerful and comfortable road machines.
