Beverly Hillbillies

There were several TV shows in the 1960's that used almost only Chrysler products. Beverly Hillbillys was probably the longest running of those. I was always disappointed that the bank secretary got a new Dodge B-body convertible every year up through 65. Then the 65 Coronet was retained until it was replaced with a 68 Coronet convertible. Then that was replaced by a 69 Coronet befor Challenger convertibles took over for the last two seasons. Other shows known for Chrysler products included The Brady Bunch, The Doris Day Show, Mannix, The Immortal, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, later episodes of Ghost and Mrs Muir, The Munsters, Green Hornet, Batman, Gomer Pyle USMC, Mayberry RFD, Man From U.N.C.L.E., Marcus Welby MD, The Name of the Game, Leave It To Beaver, and some episodes of Run For Your Life, and Mission Impossible (two shows that sometimes used only Mopars and sometimes only Fords). I'm sure there are others as well. A couple that were good for C body viewing were Run For Your Life for 66-67 C-bodies, and The Name Of The Game for 68-69 C-bodies. Both of those shows frequently put main characters in different cars in different episodes (usually convertibles) as they traveled around. Both shows come up frequently in the middle of the night on one or two cable channels. Recently DVR'ed a 1968 episode of The Name Of The Game in which one character drove a new 68 Sport Fury convertible while another drove a new 68 Polara 500 convertible and the 68 Dodge convertible was used in a chase scene with a new 68 Town and Country wagon. Though the cars were brand new they repeatedly rammed them in to each other during the chase. At least replacement parts would have been easy to find then.

Brady Bunch used Mopars from start to finish. Mannix used the Dart GTS ragtop, but other brands were used, that was the only Mopar on that show.

Several years ago, one of Miss Hathaway's red ragtops showed up at a classic car auction here in OKC. This was the 1969 Coronet 440 convertble, red with white top and red interior. It had all of the documentation that proved its' provenance. This was 2003, maybe? It was a 318 automatic with air. I believe it had a factory AM/FM, too, but I don't remember 100%. It sold for less than I thought it might have, somewhere in the mid-teens. Nice car, too!

Mannix didn't use Mopars in the first season 1967 or the last season 1974, but mostly used Mopars in all the other seasons. My favorite episode had him racing up to a house in his 68 Dart GTS convertible, jumping into a 68 Satellite convertible with a girl and then the Satellite being chased by a 383 Formula S Barracuda convertible.

Dont' forget The Brady Bunch was Mopar furnished for all season except the last (GM)
Mrs.Brady drove a wagon...just like MINE!!

Chrysler supplied the vehicles in Vanishing Point.
But after their private showing,Chrysler did not want any association with the film.

Been a long time but I didn't realize how many Imperials were in the show much less many Chrysler products. Kind of the Hawaii Five-O of the Ozarks in product placement. On Curbside Classics for those who don't look at the site.

CC Television: The Cars Of The Beverly Hillbillies

since we just did Donna Douglas in "Name that Girl" thread, a comment about the Mopars came up that the show featured. I was gonna put a thread on but found this one.

It was faithfully watching Car 54 where I fell in love with '61 Furys.
As well as 50's Buick Specials on Highway Patrol.
AH YES Broderick Crawford. Every time I saw him in ah car chase takin' ah corner I expected to see those '57-8 Burickz understeer, jump the curb into some onez front yard and take out the shrubz, lol

Highway Patrol was a bit before my time .. but in '66 or so we still had a few '58 "Booicks" in the family. :)

Heck my Dad's '51 Buick vert (NOT this car but one like it .. off white or "manilla"-colored to my recollection) he bought in 1955 a couple years after he got home from Korea was still floatin' around town at late as 1965.

Some "old farmer" (probably was a guy MY age now) had it, as my then 32 year old Dad would lament (about how slow the guy would drive it). :)

Can't drag the name of the show out of the gray matter, but Don Johnson drove a yellow Cuda with white interior and white convertible top in some cop show back in the day.

Miami Vice was earlier. The show with the Cuda was Nash Bridges in the late 90s. Also starred Cheech Marin.
