What do you guys think, which one should i put in my '70 Sport Fury. I already have the blue one from my local parts shop because they didn't have the black one, but i want to make sure before i put it in.
Searched the internet and found many discussions about the blue "race only" regulator, many said it ran with no problems, on the other hand many said that it boiled their batteries. It's a constant 13,5V regulator, would it do any harm to me? Not a daily driver, sometimes long trips driven so battery dying is not a good option. Usually i don't use headlights, only aftermarket stereo so the power consumption isn't huge. I also have an MSD 6AL ignition box in my car, someone said these upgrade ignition systems do need the blue regulator?

The blue "race only" regulator is for 69 and earlier applications. It's smaller, square shaped and has one wire and one post connection. Your blue regulator is most likely just a replacement painted blue. Spray it black if it bothers you.

Um.. Well it's MP genuine part. You're suggesting that the black box and the blue box is the same item but in different color? And were talking about the electronic regulators now, not 69 and earlier.

I am in error here. I was thinking of the 69 and earlier regulator that MP sells for electronic ignition conversions. That is a race only, electronic piece.

The 70 and up race only unit is one I am not familiar with. I never even knew it existed until I looked it up just now. Sorry for the confusion.

I just decided to return the blue one and use the black regulator, just in case. Not any huge benefits from using that race regulator, just possible problems.
But still, if you have some thoughts about these regulators would be nice to know.
