Has anyone purchased a car from Canada and brought it south across the border lately? Was wondering if you had to go through any extra steps to do so? I realize some requirements may vary by state. I live in Washington state and am looking a Monaco which currently lives on Vancouver Island, BC. Just wondering about the hassles of bringing it south? Any ideas? Or should I just drop the idea altogether?

Thanks for any information!

You should be able to easily if the car was US made. If it was assembled in Canada... it might be harder.

Hey Glenn,

I just brought one from Canada to Ohio & I just had to give a copy of the customs paperwork at the BMV. In OH you need bill of sale, Canadian registration, customs clearance & an EPA sticker under the hood.

I've gone the other direction many times. US car coming into Canada. I would contact the Canadian border service and find out if you have to clear anything with them first. Then contact the US border service and find out what they require.

I know when bringing a car fromt he US into Canada I had to have a copy of the title/registration at the US border service a minimum of 72 hours before I showed up with the car. They would search the car to make sure it was not stolen, have leans against it, or on a non-Import list etc.

I used Thorsons for shipping & Bay Brokerage for the customs stuff. Both fine.....
