I have a 68 Newport with a 440 .030 over 440 source heads crane rockers and cam. I had the motor redone in April and I herd a lifter tick. When I pulled the valley pan I noticed my cam was not riding on the center of the lobes and you can move the cam over a 1/4 inch front to back. Dose anyone know what caused this. Also found a lot of magnetic metal.

See reply in your "Camshaft Advice" thread.

Not sure if this Helps.
We had a Similar Problem with the 265 6Cyl Hemis here in the Land of OZ.
The Solution here was to Drill the Timing Cover & MigWeld a Nut to the Front, Then Use a Bolt with a Locking Nut to Stop the Cam Travel.
Careful measurements need to be done of course.

This is normal, it does not move forward because of lobe taper.
