I want to go talk to an upholsterer in the next couple of weeks, so I can get on his list this winter, so my car will be ready to go by spring.

Here is my dilemma. I don't really care for the color combination currently in the car actually I like most of it except the vinyl color. The second picture shows a little of my dash and painted console. I do not plan on changing those colors and the portion of the door panel I have marked seem to contrast with the rest of the panel when a lighter color for the seats and panels are chosen.

Would the car look odd if I kept the plastic parts of the car as they were from the factory matching the gold color of the dash and then go with cream seats and panels as pictured in the other photos? The other question would the gold carpet then go with that. I got a new sample of the carpet and I like the color. The carpet on the back of the driver seat is a pretty good representation of the new carpet sample. Those of you with white or cream interiors what is the color of your carpet?

In my opinion, if you want to change the color, change the color. The mismatch stuff will look goofy; I'd stick with stock. It probably won't look bad with new seat covers, etc.

I was worried it might be too pimped out, which I do not want. I think I got a bad lot color for the factory "ginger" vinyl color. It came out much darker than any of the vinyl in my car. If the color would match the portion of the door I have circled I'd be happy. That portion of the door seems to be more solid in color and not so fake leather looking.

The rest of the door looks like a pair of gag gift gloves I received that on the container it came in it said "genuine imitation leather". I think I'm going to have to see a bigger sample or a different suppliers "ginger".

Legendary Auto Interiors should have the seat covers in the correct hue. SMS Auto Fabrics should have the correct vinyl (they may supply Legendary) and pattern for the door panels. They did mine and they turned out great. If you give them your Interior Code off the Fender Tag, they should be able to hit it dead on.

Legendary is where I got the sample from my fender tag that I wasn't happy with. I may ask if I can get a larger sample, the original is mottled and maybe I just got the darkest color. I asked and am waiting for a sample from SMS, so it looks like I'm on the right track.

The white and black interior looks classy but then you'd need to repaint the dash and steering wheel also. Otherwise the best advice is from Rexus 31. Order original material from SMS. My .02.

Personally I consider factory original interiors superior to personal tastes and I can live with any interior color then. But if you don't like it now you won't be happy in the long run and I'd bet you'd come to a point then where you will change the steering wheel and plastic parts as well because you won't like the contrast.

If you don't go factory, or at least "period correct", it will sollicit WTF's from people like us when you someday sell it.
Nobody ever faulted stock.

Non original interiors in restored cars is a BIG turn-off for me, and most potential buyers of these cars, (not that you intend to sell, but it will devalue the car if you do).

The stylests and designers in Detroit put a lot of time and talent in the original products based on demographics and response to consepts. I don't even try to second guess their results.

Custom cars..... custom interiors. Restored car..... restored interior.

JMHO. I think the interior in your 300 is beautiful.

OK I'm staying with the factory color scheme. I'm still waiting on my second sample. They call it tan, so I think the other one called ginger was just a dark run. I would prefer what I think of as tan not so dark.

I didn't check my mail very well. I got my sample from SMS. They said there are 2 vinyl colors in the tan/brown realm on the '66 300. I got one similar to the other I received and a lighter one. I like the lighter one it looks more like the color would have been before it faded, and a nice contrast but complementing the exterior color.

After taking a closer look, my car has both the colors. The darker color is only an accent on the door panels. Now it all makes sense and am happy with the colors. I knew that dark color wasn't the main color.
